I watch my two cousins nearly every day of the business week, and due to the big age differences video games are one of the few things we all have an interest in. So can any gamers out there give me some good family-friendly multiplayer games? I’m looking for games on the PSOne and Sega Genesis.

Thanks a bunch! 🙂

Family friendly, eh? And Sega Genesis, too! I loved that ol’ system!

All of the following are at least 2 players (and u might already have some of these):

Sega:

Mega Bomberman
Columns
Sonic 2 (and I think #3 also had a 2 player mode)

How do u feel about beat-em up/side scroll action or fighting games? I thought these were ok, but I can understand people possibly having a problem with them:

Gunstar Heroes
Golden Axe
Streets of Rage 2 & 3
Super Street Fighter 2
Contra Hard Corps

For the PS1:

Worms Armageddon (Check this game out!! Seriously! :D)
Bust a Move (there’s a few of these)
Bomberman (there’s a few of these)
Crash Team Racing
Crash Bash
Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo

Thank you! This is perfect! :extrahappy:

And yeah, I really like the Sega Genesis. I didn’t grow up with it but I got one for Christmas and I’m totally in love with it!

Definetly consider playing the Crash games as well as Spyro which is similar to the Crash series. Also check out Star Wars Jedi power battles for the Ps1. Soooo fun to play with another Player. You’ll enjoy this game even if your not a Star Wars fan. 🙂

Are u talking about the Crash Bandicoot series for the PS1? I believe those are 1-player games, unfortunately; same goes for the PS1 Spyro games. 😦

I’m curious, what games have u been playing for it? 😃

I wouldn’t call myself much of a gamer, but here’s what I remember from my PS days.

I used to play Crash Bash and in all seriousness, more than once it made me depressed and think about death to the point that I can’t think it was a mere coincidence. Maybe this is because that game was the death of the franchise? It has a very sterile feel that does not resemble the earlier games. All the same, I had some fun times playing it, but I think that Mario Party (which this is supposed to be imitating) is probably more fun. Crash Bash has more consistently good mini-games (as opposed to rotate the joystick around in a circle as fast as you can, i.e. destroy your controller), Mario Party has more variety, takes place on a game board, and is not depressing. Another problem with the Playstation was that it only came with two controller ports and required you to buy an accessory (called a “multitap”) if you wanted to have three or more players. Maybe you already own that though.

I wholeheartedly recommend Crash Team Racing though. It was a better game than Mario Kart 64 (IMO).

One more obscure game that you might overlook is a Looney Tunes franchise game: “Bugs Bunny & Taz: Time Busters.” I was skeptical when my sister asked me to play it with her after my parents gave it to her as a present (a video game like that must be a sloppy cash-in, right?), but it ended up being a good game. One nice thing about the game was that (as far as I can remember), you could easily switch back and forth between co-op and single player on a single game file. If you wanted to play solo, you would control one character at a time and switch back between the two as necessary (while the other character stood around). If you wanted to switch to co-op, you just needed to plug in another controller.

I’ll mention two more multiplayer that I had fun with but may not be “family-friendly.” They both have “tude” so I would keep that in mind. One is Twisted Metal 2 which is kind of a demolition derby or car combat sort of game (i.e. you drive around and try to blow each other up with lasers and missiles). I think that the (cartoonish) violence was the main reason for the T rating, but I really don’t remember that well. The second game is Tony Hawk (I had both 1 and 2). I’m sure you’re familiar with the series. I think it’s fine for little kids for the most part but I would check the lyrics for the soundtrack to be safe. The only obscenity I remember is from the Skate Heaven level (a skate park located in outer space) of THPS2 where the game tells you, “you suck,” whenever you fall off the level. Anyway, I played those and I turned out okay… Those definitely weren’t the worst things I played as a child.

There’s also sports games, especially if the kids are into football or basketball. The only caution I would give is, while I recommended the Looney Tunes game above, do not get the Space Jam video game. That one really is just a cheap cash-in.

Then of course, there is also the old taking turns playing a single-player game. “You died! My turn!”

I would suggest investing in a Wii (they’re not that expensive) and using the digital game downloader to get Mario Kart games. My brother and I probably wasted a total of several years on those.

Also there’s Settlers of Catan. Not a video game but intensely playable.
