Who do these shows call their father, spiritually?
I don’t think this is a useful or appropriate way to look at this issue. It makes everything black and white, which is not the case.

Who is the spiritual father of Knight Rider?

But God is to be revered and worshipped, not mocked. That He was crucified is terrible, but that we turned from Him and mocked Him may have been even more painful to Him.

Maybe it is just a joke, but the subject matter is He Who is Love.

We are what we eat. What I choose to take in through my eyes and ears is a free will action, an acquiescence which is swallowed digested and appears later in my disposition. It deserves some serious reflection on my part.

peace
sigh

Is that really charitable? I am sincerely asking questions, not trying to judge anyone. I don’t watch it myself for the stated reason and I am looking to see if my self judgement was correct. I apologize for wearying you.

In so far as KnightRider may have a moral emphasis, it should be considered. Check out the thread on HappyFeet. Content and what we choose for content deserves consideration. Ultimately everything we do is a choice toward God or away from Him. We are to love with ALL of our heart, mind, body and soul. That means to me a reflection on what I put into my mimnd, whether it is knightrider, the Simpsons, Father Sheen, or Keystone cops.

As Catholics we have the Eucharist: Holiness we come into contact. Does it demand that we behave in a way that raises up the human being into an image of God?

I thought i had a perspective to add here. If I am wearying you, I honestly won’t be offended if you ignore me.

You do have a perspective to add, no apology needed. But please note, the issue you’re addressing is precisely why I placed in the title of the thread “guilty” pleasures.

We already know the content of the program borders on sin…certainly that portions of it are blasphemous…but heaven help us, God gave us the sense of humor which can appreciate the content without it shaking our faith or enticing us to blaspheme the Lord ourselves.

We recognize the faults for what they are. I do not see how laughing at the jokes is the same as buying into them. Like the other poster noted, it is because they are so ludicrous that they are funny, and it does help that no group is spared - including the democrats, contrary to what another poster claimed.

I believe your not watching for the reasons you stated are quite solid grounds, more power to you, truly. I’m sure the Lord is pleased on a certain level.

As noted in my original post, one of the reasons I watch this type of programming is to better prepare myself to use the messages to the Lord’s advantage in my dealings with 8th graders on up. It does help to have that perspective. It’s a resource that I do not believe the Lord will smite me for using to His advantage.

However, Family Guy is off my list because I felt it blasphemed against God. The straw was a joke about God hiding his pornography collection behind the Tree of Life, which was the “real” reason he wanted Adam to keep away from it.
They also showed God in bed with a woman. To me, both “jokes” a pretty darn clear case of blasphemy.

I don’t care of people accuse me of not having a sense of humor. Even from a completely secular point of view, the show hasn’t been funny since it was put back on the air.
