Family member missing mass

My sister and I both knever knew in the past that missing mass was a mortal sin, but when our priest informed everyone during a bible study that it was, we started to go every Sunday. But, this past Sunday, my sister woke up late, and missed it. I know she didn’t want to, but I told her there was another mass time at 2:00pm , but it’s in Arabic and she said she won’t understand it. I can’t force her to go, but I didn’t want her to miss. Is her missing mass a mortal sin? Even though the priest had told us this awhile ago, I know she isn’t at that moment that it’s a mortal sin, or even how serious a mortal sin is. Should I tell her to go to confession?

She should go to confession and discuss it with the priest.

Missing through your own fault-- i.e. “waking up late”-- which is in your control, and then failing to attend another available Mass (no matter the language it is in) both strike me as willfully missing Mass.

You and I cannot say with certainty it was a mortal sin-- but it is certainly something to confess.
