The death penalty is an archaic method of dealing with criminals who kill. It’s use is unjust and unfair, largely dependent on the quality of the attorney defending the case as well as the state or county in which the crime was committed.
It is also a huge waste of money. Every death penalty case has close to limitless appeals. As most of the defendants have no way of paying an attorney for those appeals, the state must pay for that attorney. The state must also pay for the attorney to argue against the appeal. Given that many death penalty case go on for 10-15-20 years in many states, this little exercise costs millions. Far more money than to house an inmate for the rest of his life.

Death row inmate are kept separate from the general population. According to what I understand of your thought process here, they would be killing inmates who you believe should be put to death anyway. In reality this is a rare occurrence among death row inmates.
