Family struggle because of observing SUNDAY please advise

I do not want my kids to study on Sunday unless it is very essential and there is absolutely no way to avoid it ( examination )

My wife does not care and she thinks I am too much sensitive in observing Sunday.

Today I noticed my daughter a university student is studying and I told her that if it is not essential it is better for her not to do so and try to concentrate on family life and spirituality

while I was talking with my daughter my wife came in grumbling that I am interfering with her studies again

The ended up in argument after argument.

Perhaps I am wrong ! Perhaps I am too religious . Should I take it easy on me and my family?

My job is mostly computer and many times I love to spend my time on computers on sunday however I have been always avoiding it

Please advise me . Perhaps I am sinning by observing Sunday too much.
I was thinking perhaps God is telling me Sunday my Sabath is gone for ever

Relax do what ever you want as long as you make sure you attend your mass

The Church discourages servile work on Sundays. Studying is not servile work.

“Liberal and artistic works are also lawful: studying, teaching, drawing, architectural designing, playing, music, writing (also typing), painting, delicate sculpturing, embroidering, taking photographs. These works are lawful even if done for remuneration”

I asked the same question last year from my priest even though he said it is OK for my kids to study he did not give an answer with confidence and he did not give me this documents

If studying or doing homework on a sunday is a SIN then teachers i had in high school and elementary have a lot of explaining to do…

I don’t see it as a sin to set aside 3-4 hours to study on the weekend and use the rest of the day focused on your spiritual life.

Conceptually I think you are correct, but if by college she has not been instilled with the same concepts you want to live by, then I would give her the freedom to make her own choices. The greatest “preaching” you can do in this case is by your actions.

She will see what you live more so than what you say and at some point it might make a difference. But right now, I would guess there are a lot of parents wishing the problem they had was their college student wanting to study more!

You have to understand that many people take the things that are posted her as Gospel…in other words, there’s no need to put undue pressure one someone fro something that is not specifically stated by the Church…for ex: amounts of time you are permitted to study. Or work to support your family, or work in the parish as a parish employee, etc.
Common sense prevails.

Each family member doing their own constructive thing alongside each other is a non-intense way of harmoniously nurturing family life. Studying for a qualification is part of preparing oneself for exactly nurturing family life however that may happen to turn out (single living, childless couple, becoming a good neighbour, etc).

I expect there’s some things the Presbyterians got right, though!
