Family wants to see the movie "Noah"

Hey everyone - Happy Friday 🙂

My kids heard about the Noah movie and really want to see it. Ages are 6, 9, and 10.
I am hesitant based on what I have heard and that it is rated PG-13.
I think they are thinking they are going to see Noah building the ark and playing with the animals but it doesn’t sound like this is what most of the movie is showing…

Any thoughts from someone who has seen it? Thanks!

The movie, IMHO, is far too violent for young children. In the second scene of the movie, Noah comes across an animal that has been wounded by hunters and is attempting to escape. Noah encounters the hunters and murders them.

The movie is full of violence, including scenes of Noah fighting and killing those who are attempting to get on the ark at the beginning of the flood.

I would very, very strongly advise against taking your children to see this movie.
 
I agree…don’t take them to see this. They are too young for this movie with all the violence they show.
 
This is not a spiritual movie in any sense. Very violent and fictional. The good guy in the Bible is definitely not the good guy here.

I would not recommend this movie for a family, or for anyone really!
 
The movie is not the story of Noah, it is very violent and I did not care for it at a all. I am certain it would not be OK for children of those ages.
 
Every review I’ve read is that this is a highly-revisionist movie with levels of violence I’d be uncomfortable exposing my kids to. Not to take away Aronofsky’s artistic license, but when you advertise a movie as being at least loosely based on a Biblical character, your audiences will be very let down if they expect a story from Scripture.

Think classic this weekend - something with Charleton Heston maybe.
 
Thanks everyone - I checked out the USCCB website with the movie ratings and what they have said is in line with what all of you shared. I forgot that resource was there or I would have gone there first 🙂

OP, my husband and I saw the movie the other day. It was ok, if you go to it with the knowledge that it is VERY loosely based on person and situation mentioned in scripture! Did I say VERY LOOSELY? 🙂

Also, it is not appropriate for children.

Do NOT take your family, especially your children, to see it! Here’s an article which claims the movie is devil worshiping:

However, I am curious, for those who have seen the movie and have said that it is violent - is it more violent than the Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ movie? My opinion of Mel’s movie was that excess graphic violence completely took away from any religious or spiritual impact the movie might have had. I actually left that movie completely disgusted with having seen it.

As with any movie based on a religious event or having religious undertones - you can’t please everyone. If people don’t like the movie because it doesn’t mesh with their interpretation of how the event actually happened, that’s certainly their right. Just as the movie makers can make any type of movie they wish.
 
Different kind of violence. Lots of skull crushing, etc. In the Passion movie, it was more violence being inflicted by beating, etc. to Jesus…this is sort of the “battle scene” type stuff in Noah.

Also, the threat of killing the newborn baby portion of the movie is too much for kids.

I can sympathize with your feelings about “The Passion”, although I wasn’t disgusted so much as traumatized, and I refuse to watch it again. The graphic violence was just too much.
And if this movie “Noah” is as violent as people are saying, I’d avoid it completely.

Honestly, I don’t understand how anybody can claim the violence in this even compares to the violence in “The Passion”. Yes, there is violence in here, but it is nowhere near as extreme or as gruesome as in The Passion. (Disclaimer: There is one scene that might be comparable with the kind of violence as in The Passion)

This movie is nowhere near as bad or terrible as most reviews make it out to be and, in my opinion, is definitely worth watching, however, it is not really appropriate for little kids, at all.
