Amos 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

I can EASILY see how this is going to happen. We as people of God would rather quote from some book, than to go to the Word of God.

If you can’t find scripture to back your claim, then chances are, your claim is wrong. I’m not talking about any specific person on this website. I’m talking about all of us, followers of Christ.

People we have to study our Bibles more, because you WILL have to stand against someone who is not of your faith. This scripture is not in the Bible for nothing.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Why use a book written by some random man when we can go to the Word of God, our guide? Let’s study more. How can Jesus come and get us and we can’t even get on one accord? Let’s stop arguing and start discussing what we know to be true in the BIBLE.
 
If your argument is that something not being in the bible makes it wrong, then I assume you don’t use toilets, or indoor plumbing, or air conditioning, or cars, or breathe.

The quote from Amos is telling us that people will stop paying attention to what God says. This is not a reference to scripture but a reference to the faithful practice of the religion of God (Christ). The Evangelical movement is a big part of this.

The second passage I have responded to in another thread.

And of the six billion or so threads you’ve started, I’ve only responded to five or six. You destroy your own threads by dishonesty, forcing people to respond within a limited scope, and taking things out of context.

No, what you are doing here is attacking the Catholic Church.

So tell me. Where do you get Scripture from?

My thing is this. I have gathered this from catholics only.

You say the Bible is missing books and so on. Some of you do not believe in going to the Bible to back your stance. BUT when it comes time to say that the catholic church is the true church, you go to the Bible. How can you go to a book that you claim is not perfect and claim that the CC is the true church?

So how is it that you go to the Bible to only say the catholic church is the true church but when someone questions your faith, the Bible becomes null and void? OR you go and get ONE scripture to back your stance.

Like I said, you say that the CC is the true church then EVERY single verse should back you, right? So why not go to the Bible to defend yourselves? It’s common sense

I believe that God is the Creator of all things. I believe that Jesus died on the cross to save us and he will be coming back to get us. GUESS WHAT…Every scripture points to those things that I have stated.

You can’t claim that the Bible says that the CC is the true church and then claim it is not perfect.

**In the LXX, this reads, “…but of hearing the WORD of the Lord” in the singular, not plural.

The context also talks about the sun going down at noon, and people looking for the Word of God, and not finding it.

This is considered to be a prophecy of the Crucifixion. For what happend? The sun went down at noon. And people no longer heard the Word of the Lord, Who is Jesus.

It’s read at the Sixth Hour on Holy Friday in the Orthodox Church.**

We do go back to the Bible, all Tradition is backed by the Bible.

But it must be acknowledged that the Bible is the product of the Church, not the other way around.

Also, we do not personally interpret the Scriptures with out the Church and its Teachings.

These are things you disagree with and make a discussion with you impossible when you attempt to make us use only a single part of the revelation of God.

Why do you need the church’s teachings to interpret something that is already interpreted?

Shouldn’t it be the other way around. Shouldn’t you use the Bible as the guide to base the church’s teachings? It is God’s Word.

Shouldn’t Christ himself be the basis for the teachings of any group which claims to be Christian. :confused:

We worship Christ, not the Bible.

WOW…

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

If you worship, you follow His Word. Jesus is always the living Word of God.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

You see how I just used scripture and it backed me 100%.
