SAN DIEGO – Verinder Malhi and his friends drove seven hours from Fresno to see Denver dominate the Chargers last Sunday.
However, a security guard initially wouldn’t let the Broncos fans into Qualcomm Stadium because they were wearing turbans, a garment typically worn by Sikh men.
“Three of my buddies, they had turbans on, and it (was like, you guys got to take the turbans off,” Mahli said.
They were finally allowed inside Qualcomm, but Malhi claims a security supervisor told him that if they ever come back, they cannot wear turbans.

Shameful. Not to mention un-American. I wonder if they allow fans of their AFC West division rivals KC Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, or San Diego Chargers with Chiefs, Raiders, or Chargers headwear on past the security check. I assume as a major sports venue there is a security checkpoint. I might be more concerned if they found a fan carrying a gun than I would be with a fan’s headcovering.

The Sikhs wear turbans and India suffered the worst slaughter by Islam. Those who resisted were put into pots of boiling oil…Sufis.

Pretty sure everyone is told to take off head coverings, hats or whatever, when security checks at the gate. Plus, half of these stories are frauds anyway.

If I were the owner of the Broncos, I’d find these guys and give them box seats for the first playoff game.

Wow…

I mean…

I feel like someone needs to really educate the public about the difference between a Sikh vs. a Muslim… you know because of what happened to Balbir Singh Sodhi… the Sikh who was murdered by on September 15th 2001 as a “reprisal” for 9/11.

Actually, now that I come to think of it… that’s a pretty good quesiton to ask here.

How many people know any Sikhs?

How many people here even know what Sikhs believe?

Or their rather sordid history with Islam in the Subcontinent?

That is no doubt true.

If they were turned away because of a standing policy, one that was strictly adhered to, about having no head covering in the stadium, first, there would be a lot more concussions on the field. But really, even a public accommodation has the authority to exercise reasonable security procedures. As long as Joe Sixpack had to leave his beer helmet in his pick-up as well, I am fine with it.
