Just wanted to post this information for anyone to discuss, but I didn’t want to derail someone else’s thread. 🙂 (Emphasis is mine in the following quotes.)
In order to understand the meaning of striving in the path of Allah, we should first have a clear concept of the responsibilities of a Muslim. According to the Qur’an and the Sunnah, the obligations of a Muslim are three-fold: A Muslim is required to become an obedient slave of Almighty Allah (SWT), he is required to mold his life, his values, his priorities, and his ambitions according to the commands of his Lord. Secondly, he must preach and disseminate the ideational and practical guidance of Islam to his fellow human beings, to enjoin all that is good and prohibit all that is evil. Thirdly, he must try his utmost to establish the domination of Islam over all other systems of life, all over the world.
In endeavoring for the establishment of the ascendancy of Islam over all other systems of life, members of the Islamic movement will have to go through the following stages:
•Passive Resistance, enduring all verbal and physical persecution without retaliation;
•Active Resistance, challenging the un-Islamic system when there is enough strength available to do so;
•and finally, the Armed Conflict (or a non-violent and disciplined popular movement)
It should be obvious from the above discussion that armed conflict or Qitaal constitutes only the last of the nine stages or aspects of Jihad, and that these two are not synonymous terms. Thus, we see that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) spent the entire twelve years of the Meccan period in calling people towards Islam, in organizing and training those who responded, and, during all that time, both he and his Companions endured all verbal and physical harassment with a non-violent attitude. It was only after Hijrah, when a strong center of the Islamic Movement was established in Medina, that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) decided that now there was enough strength at his disposal to challenge the Quraysh, and only then the Islamic movement entered the phases of Active Resistance and Armed Conflict. In view of this, all the revivalist and revolutionary Islamic groups throughout the Muslim world must keep the following fact in mind: While an armed struggle against an un-Islamic political system is permissible under certain conditions (whether or not it is feasible in today’s world is another issue), such a struggle cannot be launched without first going through the initial eight stages of Jihad.

Obligations of Muslims !!..says who ?? what group does he represent ?

I’m sure you don’t think that if X Muslim says something ,it means that all Muslims would blindly follow him…

that’s like pulling a statement from a terrorist group and saying , hey Muslims I expect you to follow this…

It’s good that we can all agree that whatever group that follows him is nuts :whacky:

Perhaps I chose too general of a title for the topic. The topic is just general obligations of Muslims - what is considered fard kafayah vs. fard ayn. Although it is heartening to see that at least some people don’t consider this author’s view representative of Islamic teaching.

At the same time, the site is “institute al islam” which implies some authority in teaching “true” Islam to Muslims. (Not that I believe a website name is necessarily an accurate reflection of a site’s authority :rolleyes:) But converts and/or Muslims not properly “catechized” in Islam may not realize this either and take this person to be an authority.

Also from this website:
All materials on Institute Al Islam are written by our learned contributors and are based on the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
I have written many of the articles on this site and review all materials as they are published. My full time business helps me run this website and Alhumdlilah I am happy to enjoy working in the way of Allah Subhanawatalla.
There also seem to be several links to articles by Deedat and Naik - two people Muslims seem to love to quote and reference. I guess I’ll investigate further as to what they have to say about “fard kafayah vs. fard ayn.”

Thank you for the (name removed by moderator)ut! 🙂

First, how many people claimed to be the Messiah ? and how many groups claimed to be “we are The true Islam” ? of course they will provide some evidence to back up their claim

Second, just quoting some verses from the Quran and saying how good Muslim they are , does not mean they are correct in everything they teach…

Third, and most importantly , According to Muslims, every Islamic book contains errors, except one book , the Quran

hope this explains:)

I also want to add that Fard Keyfah and Ayin , is found in many aspects of Islamic Fig’h … not just Jihad …

here some examples

Fard Ayin

Praying 5 times a day
Fasting for Ramdan
**
Fard Kefyah**

Praying for rain
Praying Janazah

Very true! How do Muslims determine what is “true” Islam and what is not. For example, Catholics can defer to the Pope and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. I suppose Muslims will say they defer to the Quran, but again, who says their interpretation of the Quran is correct?

Second, just quoting some verses from the Quran and saying how good Muslim they are , does not mean they are correct in everything they teach…

Exactly - just look at the Taliban and Osama bin Laden who I’m sure would claim to be “good” Muslims.

Third, and most importantly , According to Muslims, every Islamic book contains errors, except one book , the Quran

But again, who determines what interpretation of the meaning of the verses is correct? If I was a convert to Islam and just came across this site, how would I know that this person is not promoting/teaching “true” Islam. His website appears genuine, he’s got articles linked to Naik and Deedat who, I mentioned before, Muslims love to quote and reference (at least around here. ;)) As a convert, how would I know that he is teaching the wrong thing so that I wouldn’t get influenced to join a “terrorist” cell under the guise of promoting the Muslim Ummah and helping Islam dominate the world?

hope this explains:)

I truly appreciate your (name removed by moderator)ut, Hadi. Thank you! 🙂

These I can understand. Although “praying for rain”??:confused: Does that mean someone has to do this all the time, somewhere in the world - or just in an area that is experiencing a drought or … ???

Sorry , it’s a Sunnah not a Fard
