Fast and Abstinence for Ash Wednesday

Hi all,

• Mod, sorry if it’s in the wrong sub-forum -

This year, the Ash Wednesday falls on the eve of Chinese/Lunar New Year. Thus the Catholics in Singapore receive dispensation to do the Fast & Abstinence on Tuesday, Feb 5th.

The problem is, I’ll be going back to Indonesia on that day, where the Ash Wednesday will still be on Wednesday. So should I do the fast & Abstinence on Tuesday or Wednesday? Thanks all!

When in Singapore, follow the law there.
When in Indonesia, etc.
there is also nothing to stop you from following fast and abstinence by choice any weekday in Lent.

Just pick one? That is the idea anyway.
How about checking with a solid priest?

If you go strictly according to the letter of the law, it would seem so, since you are waking up in Singapore on the Tuesday, and then waking up in Indonesia on the Wednesday.

Check with your Confessor - he will have the best advice for you.

Maybe, maybe not. But why not just ignore the “have to do it” and do it both days? Remember that some Catholics still do the traditional 40 day fast for Lent. It is no longer required, but certainly cannot be bad for you.
