“Gay and bisexual men are more severely affected by HIV than any other group in the United States .” - CDC

“Among all gay and bisexual men, blacks/African Americans bear the greatest disproportionate burden of HIV.” – CDC

“From 2008 to 2010, HIV infections among young black/African American gay and bisexual men increased 20%.” – CDC

“Fighting HIV among African Americans is not mutually exclusive with fighting HIV among gay and bisexual men. Efforts to reduce HIV among Blacks must confront the epidemic among Black gay and bisexual men as forcefully as existing efforts to confront the epidemic among other groups.” - Obama

“Roughly three-fourths of HIV/AIDS cases in the United States are among men, the majority of whom are gay and bisexual men.” - Obama

“Gay and bisexual men have comprised the largest proportion of the HIV epidemic in the United States since the first cases were reported in the 1980s, and that has not changed. They still comprise the greatest proportion of infections nationally.” - Obama

“CDC reports that HIV diagnoses among young gay men (ages 13-24) of all races and ethnicities rose between 2001 and 2006.” – Obama

Objection:
“But that’s not fact with AIDS/HIV worldwide where most of the cases are heterosexual.”

Answer :
You are ignoring the percentages. There are more heterosexuals with AIDS because there are more heterosexuals. Homosexuals only make up about 2% of the population. One of the primary ways AIDS got into the heterosexual population is because of bisexual men. According to the CDC and President Obama…

“Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) represent approximately 2% of the US population, yet are the population most severely affected by HIV. In 2010, MSM accounted for 63% of all new HIV infections” – CDC

“Given the starkness and the enduring nature of the disparate impact on gay and bisexual men, it is important to significantly reprioritize resources and attention on this community. The United States cannot reduce the number of HIV infections nationally without better addressing HIV among gay and bisexual men…Even though gay and bisexual men comprise only two percent of the U.S. population (4 percent of men)” – Obama (bold emphasis given in Obama’s 2010 Whitehouse report)

“Disparities in HIV infection also exist between gay and bisexual men and heterosexual populations. Recently, the CDC announced that gay and bisexual men in the United States are 44 to 86 times more likely to become infected with HIV than heterosexual men, and 40 to 77 times more likely to become infected than women.” – Obama

“Gay and bisexual men comprise the majority of people with HIV who have died in the United States.” - Obama

Sorry for all my ignorant replies to anything…LITERALLY ANYTHING.

You have presented some very specific quotes, yet do not provide a thesis to organize your information. Is some point that you wish to convey?

Well, I’d say it stands to reason that homosexual or bi-sexual men are more likely to have HIV-AIDs, you know what men are like! Plus, there’s no woman around to calm them down.

For me, that’s the best argument against same-sex marriage (especially for men). I mean, you put a bunch of men together without female influence, add some kind of sexual attraction or tension, and you’ve generally got a disaster in the brewing.

There’s a reason why men and women belong together. People who don’t see this - well, I don’t know how blind you can be. It may be a sign of the end of the world, as in the words of Bill Murray, like “dogs and cats, living together”! 😉

Good point.

I lost 4 male gay friends to HIV/AIDS in ,the 1990s. These people are God’s children too and deserve our love and care, not condemnation.

Thankfully, at least in developed countries, many people are living with HIV as a chronic illness and are healthy. Look at Magic Johnson, a heterosexual man. He has had the virus for 20 years or more.

Read your stats, if you didn’t list this one too, I think it is important.

1 in 5 Gay/Bi Men Have HIV, Nearly Half Don’t Know- CDC

I have seen that statistic disputed, saying they must have polled at gay bars only but it is from the CDC nonetheless.
Thanks. I added that to my fast facts list of quotes and sources. Anyone who tries to dispute the facts in the OP would have to quote from a source that is more authoritative than the White House, WebMD, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But I don’t see how anyone can go against the quotes in the OP without it looking like someone throwing a small pebble at a mile-long freight train of facts.

But in the new dogma of PC relativism emotion and feelings always trumps truth and consequences.

The OP should more clearly state his point or he risks looking like he’s saying

“Quit worrying about all that AIDS stuff 'cause only gays get it and then who cares?”

I’m sure that’s not the case, but it starts to sound like it when you don’t get to any particular point.

The people that think that would claim it was so not matter what his point was.

It’s a given that those who don’t like the facts in the OP will try to use a personal attack against me by ascribing to my OP a malicious motive and accusing me of saying what I did not say. Since the facts are not on their side the only way to refute the OP is with an appeal to emotions.

It still wouldn’t hurt to summarize your point concisely, would it? A collection of quotes rarely does that well.

The intention of the thread was to show fast facts and to do so using quotes from left-leaning authoritative sources so as not to be accused of having data that is skewed to the right. The quotes speak for themselves since they all say the same thing which is that actively “gay” and bisexual men are by far at highest risk for HIV/AIDS. Besides, it’s too late to edit the OP.

Got it. Now that we’ve established that gay and bisexual mean are at vastly greater proportionate risk of contracting AIDS than hetero people are, what should we do or think differently than before we knew that? (If, in fact, it’s news to anybody)

It would be news to those who want to teach homosexual behavior in schools as the “new normal” calling it “marriage”. We can do things to raise people’s awareness of the high risks and dangers of living an active homosexual life. That was the purpose of the OP.

“and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error.” - Romans 1:27

I can’t help but wonder if the due penalty “in their own persons” is HIV/AIDS because that’s what it sounds like.

Don’t read too much into that passage that might not be there. Sin USUALLY contains the seed of its own punishment, which is why it is a sin in the first place. To suggest that God sent AIDS to smite the Sodomites is unbalanced and misses the fact that ALL sins cause mayhem and destruction throughout humanity.

A sin that does no harm wouldn’t be a sin. God isn’t arbitrary. But AIDS isn’t the worst thing that can happen to somebody committing sexual sin. The worst thing that happens is that we alienate ourselves from God. That happens whether the sin is hetero or homo.

My suggestion is that the quotes are useful tools for warning friends and loved ones about the unique dangers of homosexual promiscuity, but not so useful and a demonstration of how gays deserve extra special punishment for their sins. We’re all naturally inclined to be more shocked at OTHER people’s sins than our own. We must resist the temptation to declare theirs as worse than ours in God’s eyes. (Not that YOU’VE done that I just get squeemish when topics even sound that way)

Haydock Catholic Bible Commentary
Rom 1:27 Receiving in themselves the recompense…due to their error. That is, were justly punished for their wilful blindness and error, by which they had worshipped and adored creatures, instead of the Creator, idols instead of the one true God. (Witham)
