So let’s say I’ve eaten my allotted one meal for the day (and my two smaller meals). I remember that I forgot to take my medication. My medication says it must be taken with food. Is it permissible to eat something for the sake of taking prescribed medicine despite having eaten all the meals?

Yes. Since medicine does not break the fast and you are eating (a small amount) as required to take the medicine and not to have an additional meal.

YES, if NOT an intended abuse:thumbsup:

Either way, TAKE the meds and confess it . This is NOT a mortal sin

When one is eating because of a medical necessity to do so, one is not contravening the law.

The law of fasting and abstinence does not exist as an end in itself…it exists for a purpose. The purpose is not to impose something which will cause someone a medical problem. That is diametrically opposed to its actual purpose.

No, one would not need to confess this.

Thank you for the reminders. I can always see the simplicity of a situation when it’s someone else. But when it’s me, I feel sad and even a bit guilty over my health needs.

And thanks to the OP for asking. Your thread has been a blessing to me as well today.

I would agree with that. The key statement was “I remember that I forgot to take my medication.” indicating it was not intended.

Thank you for your replies! I figured this would be the case, but I wanted to be sure!
