(I apologize if this isn’t the right forum to ask this question)

I currently am participating in the fasting & prayer on Wednesdays regarding the Presidential. election.suggested by Fr. Riccardo.

While I want to commit to this call for fasting, it’s been very difficult to follow it consistently and completely. The few times I was able to follow it completely, I believe it was through my prayers to our Lord or our blessed Mother Mary to give me strength that allowed me to fulfill my commitment that day.

However in thinking about it, am I really sacrificing if I asked God to help me overcome my weakness? Will this type of sacrifice be deemed as worthy to our Lord as one who didn’t ask for help?

I appreciate any thoughts you may have.

There is never anything wrong with asking God for help.

The purpose of fasting and sacrifice is to draw us closer to the Lord. Nothing better than engaging in more frequent prayer, even if it is to ask for help…that will eventually lead to a more substantial prayer life if sustained. I’d say mission accomplished, in a sense.
