I am fasting during Fridays on bread and water. I do this year round.
You are a better person than I am… now if I could spread a little butter and add a slice of cheese to that bread and if the water could be turned to coffee, then I might have a chance.😉

As a diabetic I can no longer fast/abstain from food like I did when I was a young woman. So, I give up other pleasurable things for my fasts and penances.
Fasting does not have to be food-related, though that tends to be the first thing that springs to mind when people hear the word “fast.”

Though I answered that Advent is a penitential season, canon law says otherwise.Can. 1250 The penitential days and times in the universal Church are every Friday of the whole year and the season of Lent.

Well, I’ll be. Learn something new every day. As The Husband says in moments like this, « Je me coucherai moins bête ce soir » (“I’ll go to bed less stupid this evening”).

Still going to fast, however, as that is my year-round practice. Though fasting during Advent is not required I wouldn’t discourage anyone from engaging in it, even if they don’t follow a perpetual fasting program such as mine. 👍

Roma locuta est. That settles one of the two original questions, is Advent a penitential season. Now that leaves us with whether to fast or no, which I probably will
