Fasting is Required For Our Salvation ! !!

Hi all,

I am trying to find a scripture passage stating that fasting / penance / sacrifices are a required part of our salvation.

The particular quote I am looking for says either it is required part of our salvation or that without it we can be lost forever.

Do you know what I talking about?

I dont know of any scripture that would state that.

I know the bible mentions fasting, but not in order to gain salvation.

There is no quotes in the NT that say that. Jesus tells the Apostles who couldn’t exercise a demon that this demon can only be exercised “with prayer and fasting”. I think you’ll find it in Mark 9:29, although not in all translations.

Very simple - Jesus said ‘when you fast, do not as the heathens do’ - note there’s no IF you fast there, so fasting is not optional.

As for penance - Luke 13 1-5 is an excellent passage - discussing people who had suffered and died, and Jesus saying they were not great sinners, but ‘unless you do penance, you shall likewise perish’.

Then again - what about Matt 16-24 - ‘whoever would be my disciple must deny himself, take up his cross and follow me’?

Sounds like it needs to be a voluntarily thing, rather than just passively ‘accepting’ the crosses laid on him by others the disciple must actively take up the cross.
