Fasting on Fridays

Hi, I heard my aunt say that she overheard a Priest at our parish say that the only days we have to abstain from meat is on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Is that true? If so, does that mean we don’t have to abstain from meat every friday during Lent?

Here is the rule for the United States:

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. source]

Perhaps she is confusing fasting and abstinence. Fasting is only required on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Abstinence (at least in the US) is required on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent. They are two seperate things. Fasting is reducing food intake, where abstinence is limiting the types of food we eat.
