Just curious about fasting practices…

…and since I gave up all Internet usage with the exception of work-related usage, I guess I won’t be seeing the results for a while!

Happy Lent!!!

It was my intention to fast, but my health got in the way and I had to have something between lunch and dinner after I started shaking and my vision went swimmy. So frustrating these bodies of ours! I think I may try another day and prepare for it with better glycemic index foods for my morning and noon collations. Then again, I may be overthinking. . .

Enjoy your unplugged time!

I am giving up chocolate, alcohol and book purchases with the intention to give more to the church by saving that money.

Breakfast: One quart of non-fat milk

Dinner: Main meal of the day

Supper: Soup and/or fruit

No solid food between meals, but drink juice as needed to keep up strength

I have decided to eat only one full meal (dinner) and to eat nothing else during the day this year because I want to fast very seriously unlike my previous Lents. If I find that I can’t do it then I’ll switch to eating only one full meal a day and two smaller meals that don’t equal the full meal. So far so good though:thumbsup:

I was careful to have an egg and some wholemeal toast for breakfast because without a little protein the same thing happens to me.

But I’ve taken up a wonderful practice I read about in the Knitter’s Club thread here, which is prayer shawls (as in you knit or crochet shawls for people and pray for them as you do so) 🙂

I actually ended up being ok after I had my snack (3 very small whole wheat, low sugar peanut butter cookies with milk) and was able to skip dinner entirely. I went to bed pretty stinkin’ early though. So technically I made it. I am still trying to figure out what went wrong at lunch-- I had palak paneer (Indian creamed spinach with chunks of yogurt cheese) and a piece of whole grain toast.

I will have to try the milk for breakfast plan next time. Not sure I can drink a whole quart at once.

I picked the second answer. On my job, I’m on my feet alot and sometimes doing heavy lifting, so I need to eat. I’m have a bowl of cereal or perhaps some fruit for breakfast, some sliced raw veggies and crackers or something like that for lunch, and a full meal when I get home.

Latin Catholic are only bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

However, I am not necessarily fasting from food.

I am fasting from vulgar language, flying off the handle, and most TV.
