Fasting, Sacrifice and Self-mortification

I am interested in works/ material concerning fasting, sacrifice and self-mortification as a means of uniting oneself to Christ’s suffering, especially in regard to the saints. Any suggestions where to go after the Bible and the Catechism. Thank you.
