What fasts are required in the US and what do they consist of?
 
Fasting is required on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. It consists of one main meal and two smaller meals that added up do not exceed the main meal.
 
This is related to the subject of fasting; we are also STILL required to abstain from meat on all Friday’s of the year (not JUST Lent)… a fact which has been “lost” to many Catholics since Vatican II.

Canon Law (1251) “Abstinence from meat, or from some other food as determined by the Episcopal Conference, is to be observed on all Fridays, unless a solemnity should fall on a Friday. Abstinence and fasting are to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.”
