I used to like these movies for the cars, but they need to stop making them, the plots are getting to be extremely unbelievable and predictable.

I also noticed how far they go into ensuring every little thing is as PC as possible.

Or you could just, you know, not see them if they’re not your cup of tea.

“Baby Driver” is way better than Fate of Furious - much better soundtrack, better car chases and it ain’t PC at all. The word “retarded” even plays a key role in the dialogue. Can’t get any more not-PC than that.

Not really sure this is a normal CAF topic. 😃 But yes this, this franchise should never IMHO even have seen the light of day in the first place.

This topic is in the Popular Media subforum. As movies are a form of “popular media”, the thread was posted in the right place.

Well, really, how much variance can there be in a narrative that centers on car chases?

It’s literally soundtracked in “Baby Driver.” Getaway driver tells the robbers not to get out of the car until he’s got his song properly cued on the iPod.

I see what you are saying but it has went from normal run of the mill car chases to, the Govt seeking the help of drag racers and custom car enthusiasts to literally save the world (using their custom cars in the process), oh yeah, cant forget the car shows where mostly supermodels in tight clothing and thongs are in attendance! LOL

I get that its mainly eye candy, and Im fine with that, especially when it comes to the type of cars in the movie, but the plots have become so off the wall, it ruins the whole movie. The first one was much more realistic.

The constant PC-ness also annoyed me, if a character did anything remotely un-PC, illegal, etc, it was quickly explained and/or resolved in a manner that made it clear they were actually doing the right thing…Its almost like they write these movies for 2nd graders! lol

Oh well, enough ranting for the day.

The movies make too much money for them to stop.

I haven’t seen any of the movies, but I recall when the 6th or 7th one was coming out, I was curious as to how they could still be making these movies as they didn’t seem that popular to me. Then I looked it up and it turns out that, even though the series is only moderately popular in the U.S., it is hugely popular overseas. It’s sort of interesting to me that there is a film franchise that is more successful outside the U.S. than inside. Hollywood always seems so distinctly American. But then it’s easy for me to think that way because I live in America.

That is actually becoming more and more common with huge blockbusters like the Fast and Furious franchise, or Transformers, or Pirates of the Caribbean, or even the new Star Trek movies. They cost so much to make that they can no longer rely on domestic revenue alone to make a profit. So overseas revenue has become much more important.
