Recently I have been reading a number of books by Father Benedict J. Groeschel. I have read Arise From Darkness: What to Do When Life Doesn`t Make Sense. It is an amazing book that I have read several times, and wish I had read a long time ago.

Right now I am reading Healing the Original Wound: Reflections on the Full Meaning of Salvation.

I cannot recommend his books enough. Especially for those time when doubt and despair creep into our hearts. HIs books have really helped me overcome obstacles in my spiritual life and I am growing a lot closer to God because of this.

Has anyone else found his books useful? Which ones in particular are your favorites? Would anyone be interested in discussing his writings on this thread?

Sincerely,

Maria1212

I have been blessed tremendously t hear him at an all-day conference in Williamsville. He is as holy as he reads. The difference with him though is that he is a psychologist which allds a whole new dimension to his spirituality…for we are also psychological beings as well.

My priest gave me quite a bit of his books…but my favourite is 'Scripture passages for those who seek (something like that0 and the Eucharist one.

Although he is gentle, nothing stops him from telling it like it is. I did not count the number of times he said ‘stupid catholics’ at the conference! :rotfl: although he was just and right in his assessment!!

Arise from Darkness is excellent. I bought it and after reading it I gave it to my sister-in-law after she found out her son was hooked on drugs. It helped her. I should add that was a while ago and her son has been through rehab and has remained clean so far.

Another of Father Groeschel’s books I recommend is The Rosary: Chain of Hope.

I have read many of Fr. Groeschel’s books and found them all excellent. Sometimes he has a tendency to wander, but gives added spiritual info in between his thoughts.

Right now I’m listening to his tapes on THE MYSTERIES OF FAITH. Excellent!!! He answers the ques. …"did God know who he was? "

Like Fr. Corapi, he says it the way it is in plain language.

…and we should thank God every day that he survived his accident. :gopray2:

Yes! I do like his books. I just finished “Heaven in Our Hands,” and now I’m reading “Listening at Prayer.” I’m also working my way through “Spirtual Passages.” I enjoy his books a lot, and I feel that I learn so much from them.

What I like about his books is that he includes the psychological part that is so much part of all of us! I do know he is a psychologist. One of our deacons has seen him for therapy…man, I wish I could’ve taken his place but i pray for this deacon’s ordination date!

I refer to Spiritual Passafes many times over as it is a guide for me also to understand what I am going through sometimes…really, the book is a life saver by far! I share the insights with my director of course (a director of over 20 years for me. He brought us to see Fr G. and said mass with him. How blessed is he? how blessed am I?)🙂

I’ve only read one book by Fr Groeschel, but I love his talks on EWTN.

I found one of his talks amusing and insteresting where he told about his fellow brothers, who were praying the rosary across the street from an abortion clinic in NYC. At the same time, there were pro-abortion people standing with pro-abortion signs, in front of the clinic across from the brothers. When the brothers had finished their rosary, they walked back home to their little monastery. The pro-abortion people followed them, suspecting that the brothers were going to another clinic. Instead, they ended up at the monastery, which is located in a dangerous part of NYC. By this time it was dark and the pro-abortion people, who were mostly women were afraid. So, they went up to the brothers and asked why they had led them there? The brothers said, “we live here.” The brothers asked the pro-abortion people to come inside, where they served them some coffee and hot chocolate and some things to eat. Then they walked the pro-abortionist out of the dangerous section.

I’ve always wondered if this act of charity by the brothers, touched any of these people in a transforming anyway?

Father Groeschel was one of a few big influences that brought me back to the Church (I brought my wife with me too and since then we have had 2 children and they were baptized as well.)

Good work Fr. Groeschel!👍

I am reading Heaven in Our Hands rignt now and love it!!! I have never listened to his tapes though. I saw one poster mention them. Have others listened to them?

Sincerely,

I just read Heaven in Our Hands a month or so ago. I don’t know if any other spritual book has ever moved me as much as that one did. It really made me look at the beatitudes in a different way, a much deeper way then I have ever thought of them before. I have lent the book to someone else now, but as soon as I get the book back, I want to read it again. I felt very challenged to live my faith more deeply and thoughtfully after reading that book.

I have heard him speak several times at Franciscan University summer conferences and he is even better in person than on TV. His stories about Mother Teresa and the Cardinal (Cooke, I think) of New York are a scream (hint, Mother 3, Cardinal 0). It seems the buildings he was suggesting for her order’s convent were way too grand for her liking–a former discalced Carmelite monastery, a warehouse, a school.

The man could not write a bad book if he tried with both hands. I recommend Spiritual Passages as an essential guide for anyone who needs to understand what is going on in his own spiritual life. And A Still Small Voice on the topic of discernment both for oneself and of so-called apparitions and locutions.

He is more of a hoot when, at the last conference, he said ‘stupid catholics’ numerous times! I heard him on Catholic Radio that he was wanting to write a book called How to be a Stupid Catholic!:rotfl:

I’m reading “The Virtue Drive Life” by him right now…it’s really good…👍
