Good point. While I consider the Cotswalds scenery to be very lovely, the murder rate seen on Father Brown might discourage tourism to the area, just as Hawaiian tourism might suffer from all the bloodshed on Hawaii Five-O. But then again, the percentage of solved crimes is tremendous šŸ˜€.

If you guys want to see a place with a horribly high murder rate, watch Death in Paradise. Fun series.

Along with Midsomer, St Mary Mead, Cabot Cove etc etc. At least Agatha Christie had the sense to make Poirot travel.

So did Chesterton, although the Fr Brown mysteries were not about murders (another thing the TV show gets wrong).

The Father Brown stories written by Chesterton was awesome and some of my favorite fiction I have read. I absolutely love the 1974 Father Brown series starring Kenneth More and think it did a pretty good job of portraying it.

I have seen a few episodes of the new one and was pretty turned off on how they are doing it. For example they may the characters in ā€œHammer of Godā€ about being homosexual when that isnā€™t what the story was about it. It was about adultery. Why did they needlessly change it? So I stopped watching the new one even though I love Father Brown.

Where are people watching this and on what channels? I canā€™t find this on the BBC or PBS channels in the eastern US area, and neither can friends of mine who would also be interested. Is it showing in England? Will it come to the US?

I believe it is free if you are a Amazon Prime member.

As to fictional murder rates, the show Death in Paradise takes place on a fictional Caribbean island called St Marie. It has a supposed population of 10,000 people, IIRC. Of course lots of tourists. Someone gets killed every episode. Only 5 people on the police force, including the police commissioner. I think I will book my vacation plans elsewhere.

Speaking of Poirot, the last season or so of the series was pretty good, and they presented him in his old age and at his death of being a very devout Catholic. Always traveled with a rosary, saying a rosary in bed, etc. Quite refreshing. From my understanding, Agatha Christie never stressed his faith that much. That was a nice departure from the books in a direction we do not often see.

I wish mystery series in general relied much less on murders, to be honest.

Yea, I can understand that point. We love to watch the murder mystery that has intermixed a little humor and light heartedness. We canā€™t have it too dark afterall šŸ™‚ My wife and I always joke at the beginning of a episode about the short life expectancy of the guest star in the first scene.

Iā€™m watching it on Netflix streaming here in the northern/middle U.S.

Ever since I got Netflix (and recently Amazon Prime, too), Iā€™ve pretty much stopped watching regular TV and I wait until full seasons of each show are released on streaming. Losing the commercials and turning every 60 minute show into its true 42 minutes or so has more than made up for the $12 per month.

Hi Shasta Rose,
Revealing my ignorance, I had assumed it was on PBS everywhere in the US. I live in Oklahoma and it is definitely on Sunday nights on Public Broadcasting where I live. I hope youā€™re able to locate it in the way that other posters have suggested, such as Netflix. I hope you enjoy it ss much ss I do.

Yeah, there are a few episodes that I donā€™t like they are just not what would happen in a 1950 Catholic parish or with a priest.

However, overall, I loved the series.

I live in Georgia and all the BBC mystery series air on Friday nights on PBS and rerun throughout the week. Which reminds me to see if there has ever been a thread on The Dr. Blake Mysteries.
