Father Damen was a very passionate Catholic priest, who was born in in Holland in 1815… His no nonsense, direct approach and common sense, converted thousands of protestants to Roman Catholicism. Please read the above link and discuss it. In this Homily, Father Damen had 7-8 different denominations at the homliy.

The following sermon is as relevant today as it was over 100 years ago when it was first preached by Father Arnold Damen, S.J. That Father Damen’s message was and still is a challenge to the many who pride themselves “Bible-and-Bible-alone Christians” is evident from the title, “The Church or the Bible.” “One cannot have God for his Father, who will not have the Church for his Mother,” and likewise one cannot have the Word of God for his faith who will not have the Church for his teacher. …

So many people need to start learning from History. It shows that their philosophy is in error. What did you think of the homily?

We don’t have many priests or bishops today who can give such a good sermon. We have some, but they aren’t in the minority, and all to often, they are attacked, not just from without, but from within the Church. It serves as a reminder of the constant eternal battle into which we are drawn. Not between flesh and blood, but between principalities and powers. Against the powers of darkness. Satan and his rebel angels. Our immortal souls are at stake. And, yet, so many of us act like it doesn’t matter. They go out and get college degrees in business, science, arts, etc., and have a 2nd grade education in their faith. Most can’t even name the 10 Commandments or the six precepts of the Church, or much of the real basics.

I know… Up here in Canada, the Catholic School system is talking about the Global warming, and homosexuality, to our kids… I am glad the my nieces and nephews are home schooled. Satan is truly trying to make people forget about the fear of God. I do know that, with all the destruction that is happening, that, God is telling us to shape up! Right now, though, people are still not listening!
