In this case the girl’s father did not agree to his daughter’s transition, and a gag order prevents him from speaking about it.

“Last week, Justice Francesca Marzari of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Canada, declared a father guilty of “family violence” against his 14-year-old daughter on the sole basis that he had engaged in “expressions of rejection of [her] gender identity.” These “expressions” revolved entirely around his polite refusal to refer to his daughter as a boy in private, and his steady choice to affirm that she is a girl in public.”

I live in Canada and am very liberal, but that gag ruling is just asinine. Makes me wonder if I could get in trouble just for stating my opinion.

I see that the word violence essentially means nothing anymore.

That’s a pretty loose definition of “family violence” if I’ve ever seen one.

Thought the same thing when then Cardinal Ratzinger suggested that having gay parents adopt children “does violence” to them.

Yes, but that is how he is usually referenced when it’s something he wrote or said when he was Cardinal. Did he say [whatever] as bishop, cardinal, Pope, or Pope Emeritus?

I don’t remember, but it came across as a jab at him, like when people refer to Pope Francis as Bergoglio.

It’s time’s like these I am glad to call Donald J. Trump, My President!

Poor Canada.

Some people throw in a “then”. For example, a book was written by then Cardinal Ratzinger. But I don’t think it’s necessary.

Yeah, I’ve seen that but but they descrbing or referring to something in present tense as Pope Bergolio or just Bergolio.

Whatever one’s feelings are about the case, it is obviously a difficult period for the whole family and specifically the girl. You’d think that she would need as much love and consideration from her parents as would be possible to give.

If he opposes his daughters actions then one could understand that. But publicly condeming these very personal matters in any publication that is likely to support his views is a low life action.

I wonder if this kid always felt she was a boy, or if something happened to trigger dissatisfaction with her biological sex, or if she’s in it to get attention.

While forbidding Clark to speak to the public about his daughter’s case, Marzari stated that she was not overriding Clark’s “freedom of thought and speech.” “There is no requirement that [Clark] change his views about what is best for [Maxine],” she explained. “It is only how he expresses those views privately to [Maxine] and publically to third parties that is affected.”

Does Justice Francesca Marzari of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Canada, really not know the correct spelling of the word “publicly”? Or is it the reporters and editors of The Federalist who are at fault? I think we should be told.
