I didn’t get any answers in the other forum, so I’ll try here.

Two questions:

On what Church dogma does Father Greeley dissent? I found this article but it is scant on source material.

Also, has he been forbidden from saying mass in public? I have seen some folks on the web state this but see no source material.

Thanks, although that may take a while. :o
Glad to see you are a believer in Jesus—I think you did not always have that monicker as I recall.
You’re welcome-just think of how others will be able to make use of your research once you’ve done it. 😉

A couple of years ago, Greeley wrote an article that appeared in a local newspaper, but without his identification as a priest. Someone read it over the radio and took exception to it as being unCatholic among other things. [Cleveland Plain-Dealer?]

It was a while back, but it stuck in my mind as being conspicuous because Greeley didn’t mention in the article or by-line that he is a priest. In fact, I was even unsure at the time that he was still a priest.

Here is Greeley’s Web site:

agreeley.com/

If you scroll around, you might wonder a bit.

But, he is apparently dying, so you might also want to include him in your prayers and also include people who might have been misled by his writing and speaking.

Finally, google: " dissent andrew greeley " all sorts of relevant things come up.

I don’t take much stock in what he has to say and I disagree with most of his stands but I will pray for him.

I am sure Greeley uses such ambiguous language that it maybe hard (or it will at least take a while) to find exact pin point heresy.

I know Greeley more as a sociologist and novelist than as a theologian. His novels were always problematic for his Church superiors. As for his doctrine, it may be that he dissented more in matters of discipline than doctrine, but then I haven’t read the book linked above.

Hello, folks,
I’m new here, but I do feel compelled to answer this –
I only knew Greely as a novelist for many years – it was his novels that kept me linked to my Catholic faith during a 54 year marriage to a Christian who had no use for organized religion. Husband is now in a nursing home (Alzheimers) and I am back in the Church – and I’ll always be grateful to Andrew Greely for his realistic view of people (in his mainstream novels) and his purely fun escape (Irish gold series)…
Yes, I did also study other Catholic, Protestant, and New Age stuff during all those years, but it was always Greely who brought me back.

J.
God, grant me the serenity . . .

This thread is now closed.

Please be advised that even if Fr. Greeley dissents he is still a member of the ordained priesthood and worthy of both our prayers and the respect due his office.

Therefore I expect every person to remember that in referring to any member of the clergy and use their proper title.

In this case.** Father Andrew M. Greeley**.
