What did Father Martin have to share with his Twitter followers on the great feast of the nativity of the Baptist?

Well, that would be a pro-homosexual message of course.

This tweet embodies the problem with Father Martin’s postings about homosexuality. The clear implication is that there’s nothing wrong with gay desires…God created them after all. “Pride.” In other words…wink wink, nod nod…gays should be allowed to marry, to be accepted as practicing gays, etc. etc. etc.

What a travesty.

I hope everyone reads today’s Psalm (139), and remembers that God created them as they are, especially any LGBT youth who doubt this:

“It was you who formed my inward parts;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you for I am
fearfully and wonderfully made.”

#Pride

You seem to be reading into it what you want it to say. LGBT youth were “knit together in my mother’s womb” just like the rest of us.
I don’t see any reference there to desires, to gay marriage, to homosexual sex, “etc.” Did you leave out some of his tweet?

Give me a break. His point is clear, especially with his #pride hashtag…the very motto of the gay rights movement.

The agenda is clear: normalize homosexual relations.

This is why I steer clear of Father Martin.

What he tweeted was theologically correct as it stands.

But because of our society being where it is, this being pride month, and his addition of hashtag pride at the end could be seen as an endorsement of homosexual acts, rather than the affirmation of God’s love for homosexual persons.

I agree with your post - Father Martin takes great care to avoid saying anything that would explicitly be considered heterodox, but then throws in hints and innuendos (#pride is a clear signal of support for the homosexual agenda) about his true aims. He is not to be trusted.

Checked the Catechism on this one, there is no footnote that says we may freely disregard this paragraph when it comes to chatter about priests.

2477 Respect for the reputation of persons forbids every attitude and word likely to cause them unjust injury. He becomes guilty:
  • of rash judgment who, even tacitly, assumes as true, without sufficient foundation, the moral fault of a neighbor;
  • of detraction who, without objectively valid reason, discloses another’s faults and failings to persons who did not know them;
  • of calumny who, by remarks contrary to the truth, harms the reputation of others and gives occasion for false judgments concerning them.

Gay people are just as wonderfully made in the womb as the rest of us. God loves them just as much as the rest of us, too, and they should indeed be proud to be humans created in God’s image.
Not sure why all the rabid gnashing of teeth over this, except it’s Father Martin and a certain segment of this forum bash him every chance they get.

But because of our society being where it is, this being pride month, and his addition of hashtag pride at the end could be seen as an endorsement of homosexual acts, rather than the affirmation of God’s love for homosexual persons.
Makes ya think about the issue. Got a discussion going. That’s what Fr. Martin is trying to do. Mission accomplished.

I think as usual, the discussion is about Fr. Martin, not the Church’s teachings on homosexuality. I am not sure he is anything more than lightning rod at this point, intended or not. That is not the discussion he is seeking to have.

Well, somebody had to take on that role.
When he starts advocating sin or commits a disobedient act, I will worry about him then, but for now I am not going to read stuff into his every tweet.

I notice lately his constant criticism of the current administration’s immigration policy. But nothing about the previous administration’s redefinition of marriage which denies children’s rights to a mother and father.

To the Fr. Martin defenders. No one here goes out of their way just to “bash” Fr. Martin. We just get sick and tired of seeing the stewards of Christ’s Church make a mockery of her teachings. The fact is, he has received plenty of scathing criticism, including from well known Canon Lawyer Dr. Edward N. Peters, Cardinal Robert Sarah, Fr. Gerald Murray, and Fr. Dwight Longnecker just to name a few.

Good point Mark. I don’t think anyone here has “read into” Fr. Martin’s tweet. Look how he ends his tweet:

#Pride

This hash tag is currently being used by those identifying as “LGBT” this month as they try to convince our culture that nothing is inherently wrong with same-sex sexual acts. We should seriously ask ourselves, and reflect on this question: “Why is a Catholic priest and pastor of souls using this hashtag?”

Another question. Would anybody else here publicly use this hashtag, especially during “Pride Month”? Why or why not?

Furthermore, the irony (while obvious) should not be lost here. Pride is a sin. Taking pride in committing a sin is even worse. By tweeting this hashtag, what are we as Catholics supposed to be taking pride in exactly, particularly during “Pride Month”?

I don’t know. I’m glad there is at least one priest that is trying to reach out to the LGBT community even if I do disagree with his methods.

Thanks for posting that link to Courage yankeesouth.

I particularly liked the quote from Pope Francis that elevates the dignity of all human beings, while counselling against making some artificial identity all-consuming or even unto being a false God (as I interpreted it).

Posting this from my phone … so I couldn’t easily cut and paste the Pope’s crtical phrase from the Link’s quote. That would be better than my interpretation of it.

Maybe someone could cut and paste it? I will later if no one does … and the thread’s still open. 😇

Well if you disagree with Fr. Martin’s methods, then you’ll be happy to know that there are several Catholic priests reaching out to those that identify as “LGBT” who use methods that are much more agreeable with Catholic teaching.

As Yankeesouth mentioned, Fr. Philip G. Bochanski is doing great things. So is Fr. Mike Schmitz, particularly with his new book entitled “Made For Love”. I also recommend watching the video in this link.

Good article posted today about the dangers of listening to Fr. Martin:

Sounds great to me!
