Father Michael Manning and EWTN

Father Michael Manning is a famous catholic priest seen on many protestant networks… why isn’t he ever on EWTN? Is there is bad reason behind this? Have you heard anything controversial about Father Manning? It hard to believe that this famous catholic priest isn’t a regular on EWTN.
 
There are lots of famous Catholic priests who aren’t on EWTN, surely!

Firstly, there are more than a couple of other Catholic television stations/networks around, though not on the scale of EWTN. Television stations and networks tend not to poach each other’s talent. So it may be that Fr Manning is instead a regular on some other Catholic station/network and accordingly not appearing on EWTN.

Secondly - he simply may feel that his ministry is to reach out to non-Catholics via their television networks, instead of to EWTN’s viewership, who are mostly already educated and committed Catholics. Something like Paul’s ministry being to the Gentiles whereas James’s was more to the Jews.

You may be on to something here, Lily. Fr. Manning is a Divine Word Missionary and as such may feel his ministry is primarily directed to those who are not Catholic. Secondly, as you mentioned, I believe he is connected with a different television station and may not appear on EWTN for that reason, though I really have no way of knowing.

Thank you for this information on Fr. Manning and his work. I don’t know very much about his work, but I liked the links you provided in your post. He strikes me as a very humble and charitable priest.
 
I try to watch him every Monday at 1:00 Central on The Church Channel.

I hope he’s reaching a lot of non-Catholics this way; it’s a great broadcast.
 
He seems like a very humble and brave person. To be able to preach to non-Catholics takes a lot of Faith and guts lol. I’ve never heard anything controversial, but there are some people who post this interview of him on Larry king. You make your own decision on this. In my opinion he didn’t really say anything wrong.

I have known Father Manning for any years. He has always been strictly orthodox in his teachings. Many years ago several couples got together to give weekend retreats for married couples. Father Manning was the priest for our first weekend, and intended to continue. However, his order gave him more duties which filed his time.
 
*If we are discussing the same priest (and I believe we are), Fr. Manning was actually on EWTN at one time. He had at least one weekly show. My memory fails me regarding the exact time period. I would say perhaps sometime in the late 80’s/early 90’s. I enjoyed watching him. *

SAN BERNARDINO - A Roman Catholic priest with a worldwide television ministry based here has admitted to having a sexual relationship with his cousin, a county schools superintendent on California’s Central Coast.

The Rev. Michael Manning confirmed by phone that he had the relationship with Monterey County Superintendent of Schools Nancy Kotowski, when questioned about copies of correspondence sent to this newspaper that appeared to point to the two breaking off the relationship more than two years ago.
