Father Nelson Baker celebrates Christmas Mass

I found this remarkable footage tucked away on an old documentary VHS and decided to upload it to youtube. It is truly a historic and spiritual treasure. For those of you not familiar with Father Baker (or more properly Rt. Rev. Msgr. Nelson H. Baker, V.G.,) visit this wonderful site:

The footage shows Father Baker celebrating Christmas Mass in the chapel of St. John’s Protectory in 1933 (He’s 92 at the time). The last snippet of footage shows Msgr. Baker reading in his private chambers, three months before his death at the age of 95. Currently Father Baker’s cause for canonization is being reviewed by the Vatican.

Thanks for posting this. My wife’s dad and uncle were “Father Baker Boys” - i.e. orphans taken care of by Fr. Baker’s home. If you are ever in the Buffalo area, swing through Lackawanna and stop by the Basilica and marvel at what the faith of a humble priest accomplished.

We did a pilgrimmage to OLV in November to pray at Fr. Baker’s tomb for the intercession of a mom from our chapel with an inoperable brain tumor expecting her 13th child. My novena to Fr. Baker continues to this day.

Thanks for the post.
