This is a topic which has been brought up recently and often in years past. Father Robert Spitzer, retired president of Gonzaga University is an author, scholar, and broadcaster. His diminishing vision has left him virtually blind today. Here he is with Doug Keck;

Very nice. I think the columnist, Reverend Austin Miles claims to have had such an experience as well. I will watch the rest later.

What caused Fr. Spritzer’s blindness? I really admire him.

I admire him too. I never miss his weekly EWTN show. I think his sight slowly deteriorated. He is looking into an experimental procedure to try to restore his sight.

God bless him, and he’s so smart! I hope the procedure works.

IAt the risk of someone swooping down in here to accuse me of scupulosity, when Fr. Spritzer is talking about midway (or slightly longer) through the video about NDEs possibly being confirmation from God, giving us an olive branch in these modern times and materialism, he’s not insinuating the end of the world is near, or does Fr. agree with most theologians that no one knows when the end of the world will be?

So Interesting!

Thanks for posting.

He refutes the idea that NDE’s are the result of a dying brain or drug induced delusions.

I emailed Fr. Spitzer’s address with my question, last night but still haven’t gotten a reply.

Apparently the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut has a great deal of scientific evidence gathered on out of body experiences.

I really admire Fr. Spitzer; very intelligent man who has a knack for explaining complex and profound concepts in a way that is easy to understand.

Fr. Spitzer is a first rate, world class scholar, scientist, AND churchman.

I take anything he says very seriously.

A book by a psychiatrist named Dr. George Ritchie tells of his experience like this many, many years ago. It is called Return From Tomorrow & he saw purgatory. Not a Catholic book & he was not Catholic - I was not either when I read it 30 years ago. It was a good book.
