Hello everyone,
I have pondered upon this question for a long time now and it seems to me as if Our Lady of Fatima never actually promised an Era of Peace as some claim she did. I know all the Fatima prophecies and secrets have been fulfilled and revealed to everyone. However, some claim Our Lady promise and Era of Peace during which all the world would be evangelized. This period of global Christendom supposedly is to occur after a minor tribulation and precede the Great Tribulation before the Second Coming and Final Judgement. Is it true that our Lady promised such Era? I know she promised her Immaculate Heart would be victorious along the heart of Jesus, but can this not simply imply that her Immaculate Heart’s triumph would happen along the victory of Jesus over Satan? Why do some claim that this promise specifically relates to and Era of Peace?

What you are speaking about is private revelation.
In regards to the Fatima messages I believe Sister Lucy may have had a vision where she was told that once Russia was consecrated a PERIOD of peace would occur. This is private revelation though and NOT part of the deposit of faith.
St John Paul 11 consecrated the world and Russia on March 25 1984. 7 year later communism began to fall and it does seem that we are in a period of relative peace.
Some say we are still waiting for this grand era but there is nothing biblical about it nor is it in the catechism.

Jesus has already conquered Satan. He did it on the cross. We are in the end times since then and are just waiting for the fullness of the martyrs to be achieved. Those who die for Jesus.

well, we may have had a relative peaceful period after communism fell, but the world definitely is not in a peaceful time right now (ISIS ring a bell?)

Mary warned us about the 2nd world war happening (that was NOT private revelation - it happened!) and that it would if people did not repent.

If she came back to chastise us right now, I would imagine we’d get the same type of warning, but about a third world war. Would we listen?

I don’t even know if that period of peace has really happened - we still also have communism run countries (China, Cuba, North Korea, etc)

As far as I know the message was that the consecration would be done late after Russia had spread her errors,(whatever those errors are). After the consecration a period of peace would be given. We have had no world wars since the consecration was done.

I myself am not holding my breath for any utopia because the catechism says that there will be a final unleashing of evil against the church at the end. It will not be a gradual ascendency but the Church crucified and following her Lord. Many will fall away from the faith.

What God is trying to tell us through Our Lady, His Church and Divine Mercy is to “Wake up,” LEARN our Faith, amend our lives, live our faith, and help all we can to do the same. So it is up to us if we really want that era of peace to come. Cafeteria Catholics, lukewarm Catholics and indifferent Catholics are not enough. We need sincere, faithful, loving, loyal. Catholics, clergy, parents, teachers and laity.

“Peace in the world must begin with peace in the human heart. If the heart of each person possesses peace, then that peace can be shared with the family, the local parish community, the neighborhood, the nation, the entire Church and ultimately the whole world” . (Fatima for Today, Fr. Andrew Apostoli, C.F.R.) A great book to read.

God Bless, Memaw

Memaw, this alleged Era of peace is not only not biblical but there is nothing about it in the Catechism either.

It does seem to be prominent in Judaism and also Buddhism (the world teacher Maitreya)

The bible says that good and evil will grow together until the end. I have heard a few priests mention this astoundingly wonderful era of peace as if it were a reality.
It reminds me sadly of those weird surrealistic Jehovahs witness tracts with earth a paradise. theme.

The Church teaches that the Kingdom will not be fulfilled until after the final judgement and the end of history with the coming of Jesus Christ.

The Catholic Church has approved the Fatima Apparitions as “Worthy of Belief,” and every Pope since then has promoted it. The Church is guided by the Holy Spirit, as Jesus promised, so I will put my trust in the Catholic Church and let God run things His way. I don’t look to other religions to compare mine to. Nor do I use my imagination to come to my own conclusions. God Bless, Memaw

The Catholic Church has NOT promoted the Fatima messages as some utopia or era of peace coming. This Messianic age is a Jewish belief.

The Fatima message is one of repentance and atonement. If you believe the messages to St Faustina they state that we are NOW living in the time of mercy. When this time runs out we will then face the final judgement. If we do not repent and accept HIs mercy we will then pass through His judgment.

It seems we have sealed our fate though because abortion on demand and now the acceptance of a perversion of marriage is a sign our society has turned very far away from God.

The Catholic Church does not promote anything as some utopia. But the Catholic Church HAS approved the Fatima message in it’s entirety. And has promoted it ever since then. God Bless, Memaw

Thank you everyone who replied. I used to habe such erroneous idea of Fatima promising a ‘utopia’ world. I will still pray the rosary nonetheless!

As I read the message, if Russia was consecrated, there would be a “period of peace”.

And that’s about the sum total of it. Exactly what is meant by a “period of peace” is up for grabs.

We haven’t had another world war since 1945, as much due to nuclear MAD as anything else, which says something about original sin and the human race viz. we’re so good and wonderful we have to load ourselves to the gills with weapons which can destroy civilisation several times over.

I sometimes think that one almighty judgement is coming, and the church will be persecuted as part of it.

As far as the disunity of the Christian faith goes, my old pastor had the opinion that “we lost it in the Reformation”. I also asked him what he thought about church / state division, and his somewhat terse reply was “it comes straight from the devil.”

I suspect that’s one reason why God is allowiing Islam a new lease of life - at least in part to challenge the “post-Christian” West, and to get rid of this mindset, which simply empowers the secular world at the expense of the church. There is no state-religious divide in Islam, and even in secular Moslem nations, eg. Turkey, there has been a move to revert to their more fundamentalist roots.

So they’re going to pose a major challenge. And it’s not much use accusing them of being half hearted - they’ve demonstrated again and again they’re quite prepared to die for their beliefs.

Meanwhile in the West, instead of a unified voice, we’ve got thousands of competing sects and three major church divisions - Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant. Another sign of original sin.

I think God’s a bit fed up with it, and He’s going to start demanding we fix it.

I have been thinking along the same lines nowadays. It’s not particularly difficult to see that this divide has contributed to the ills of modern society. There are going to be those who will try to argue otherwise. You can argue for anything if your heart is so set on it. But it is obvious Islam does not care one bit about their arguments.
