The Fatima Prayer:
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Your Mercy
Why would some souls be more in need of going to Heaven than others? Shouln’t we pray that *all *souls are lead to Heaven, period?

:heaven:

Some people are much more lost in sin and need many prayers and sacrifices from us. We ask Jesus to forgive them, because they don’t ask Him themselves for that (yet).

That last part is more a reminder to US that Jesus’ mercy is there for all of us, no matter what we think we deserve! Many often feel they aren’t worthy of any mercy at all and are lost. This is Mary’s way of letting us know her son can forgive us, all we need do is accept it!

It doesn’t mean “more in need of going to heaven”.

It means serious or hardened sinners, basically, as opposed to good people who have fewer sins requiring God’s mercy to overcome.

The hardened sinners need more of God’s mercy because there’s more bad stuff that God has to forgive or set aside.

If the wording gives you pause: You don’t need to pray any additions to the rosary coming from private revelations.
The church was completely fine for centuries without them.

Well, if that’s how it is, since the Rosary came from private revelation then why pray it at all?

I don’t think it is accurate to claim that the “rosary came from private revelation” in the sense Fatima is a private revelation. Anyway: The rosary is not worse without any Fatima additions, so I just suggested that the OP could drop them when irritated by them - that is all.

First of all – those words are wrong – the entire prayer is:

Oh my Jesus,
Forgive us our sins,
Save us from the fires of Hell,
Lead all souls to Heaven,
And HELP especially those most in need of Your Mercy.

I am not completely familiar with the English prayers (Norwegian is my prayer language:)).
The one I copy/pasted is from theholyrosary.org/rosaryprayers.

I do not have a problem with them, I just want to learn what the words really mean (and now I know!).

I’ve never said the words “And help” and all the rosary groups I’ve been in I’ve never heard anyone say the words “And help”. Frankly, never heard anyone at any time use the words “And help” after “lead all souls to Heaven”.🤷

True. The addition of “and help” doesn’t make sense.

Especially means specially: for a special purpose. In this case mercy.

Summa Theologiae > First Part > Question 21 The justice and mercy of God
Article 4. Whether in every work of God there are mercy and justice?

Objection 1.
It seems that not in every work of God are mercy and justice. For some works of God are attributed to mercy, as the justification of the ungodly; and others to justice, as the damnation of the wicked. Hence it is said: “Judgment without mercy to him that hath not done mercy” (James 2:13). Therefore not in every work of God do mercy and justice appear.

Reply to Objection 1. Certain works are attributed to justice, and certain others to mercy, because in some justice appears more forcibly and in others mercy. Even in the damnation of the reprobate mercy is seen, which, though it does not totally remit, yet somewhat alleviates, in punishing short of what is deserved.

In the justification of the ungodly, justice is seen, when God remits sins on account of love, though He Himself has mercifully infused that love. So we read of Magdalen: “Many sins are forgiven her, because she hath loved much” (Luke 7:47).

Really! So where did the Rosary come from then, and who gave it to us?

Indeed! Let me know what you think where it originated.
Lol, sure, pick up a book, “Champions of the Rosary” by Donald Calloway, most everything I have to say about this subject comes from there.

Comes right out of the book I use to pray the Rosary: Mary, My Hope
