I have to put in a vote for our most gorgeousest Aussie actor, Hugh Jackman - not all his movies have been great, but he seems like a very grounded, genuine guy. Who can sing and dance too 👍

And George Clooney - man, I could just look at and listen to him all day, even if he was just eating toast and reading the phone book. 😃

I tried. This was hard and I don’t think I came up with quite the right combo for my lists, but here they are:

The Men:
Joaquin Phoenix
Gary Oldman
Liam Neeson
Bill Nighy
Edward Norton

The Ladies:
Tilda Swinton
Emma Thompson
Helena Bonham Carter
Maggie Smith
Jennifer Connelly

I know pretty much nothing about these people’s personal lives and created the list based on who I like to see in movies and not if they are good role models

My favorite actor, Robert Patrick, is starring in a movie with George Clooney!!! I’ll have to bring a drool bib! Sigh!!! Thud!

The movie is Men Who Stare At Goats. Here is the imdb link:

Anyone from the cult classic Freaks and Geeks. I’m so glad to see the cast doing so well. Most of the British actors including Christian Bale. I think Russell Crowe is terrific. I also love and respect the openly Catholic (and sincere believers) Jim Caviezel and Eduardo Verastegui.

I often hear the critics slam Scarlett Johansen’s acting and I know this is so petty but I’m a little bit mad at her for marrying Alanis Morissette’s ex when he was on the rebound from having broken up with her. I know that Alanis has criticized The Church and is for abortion but she really does deserve the be happy and Ryan Reynolds got over her so quickly, it was like a year or less after the broke up. (Alanis also wrote the most beautiful anti-suicide song Joining You which is amazing in it’s unplugged version.)

Cary Grant

I used to like Tom Hanks and Ron Howard. But, that all changed when they did the DaVinci Code. Tom was reared Catholic, but, I guess all of that flew out the door. He was great in Forrest Gump and in Apollo 13, though. What a shame. And, Opie should have known better.

I agree. I think that after the kerfuffle about The Da Vinci Code, they made their new movie to prove a point – that they are not going to be “dictated to” by the Vatican.

Yeah, I can’t watch a Hanks movie any more.

I try to avoid watching interviews etc with actors, because even when they are good at their craft, I can’t watch them if I know they’re knobs.

Actors I still like (for acting: I usually know little of their personal life):

Johnny Depp – seems to be always ready to play odd characters
Gary Oldman – great villain, great too as the understated hero, Jim Gordon
Jimmy Stewart – fine actor, good man, war vet. Some co-star of his once said (tongue-in-cheek) that Jimmy couldn’t act: he just went on screen and pretended to be James Stewart.
Alan Rickman – the villain who canceled Christmas
Cary Grant – especially in “Arsenic and Old Lace”
Gregory Peck – as AFI’s number-1 hero, Atticus Finch
Gary Sinise
Will Smith
Tim Kang – the detective on “The Mentalist” who talks like he’s channelling Joe Friday

Side note: Can’t stand John Wayne.

Actors:

Harrison Ford
Sean Connery
Will Smith
Denzel Washington
Jack Nicholson
Anthony Hopkins
Morgan Freeman
Gerard Butler

Actresses:

Sandra Bullock
Catherine Zeta Jones
Meg Ryan
Diane Lane
Sally Field
Meryl Streep

among others…

Ditto. Amen.

I respect Tom Hanks’ great acting ability, but I would not pay to see him act.

As for Ron Howard–what a disappointment.

I’m just glad (in a mean sort of way!) that the movie DVC was a horrific bomb at the box office!

I suppose this is a different thread. I have a really really hard time watching actors and actresses who have political views that are opposed to Christian values.

For example, I absolutely will not watch Susan Sarandon in anything, even Rocky Horror Picture Show. I think she has done such tremendous damage with her anti-Christian politics. I will turn my back on her if she’s on TV.

I hate it that people pay attention to actors and actresses on scientific issues! Don’t they remember back in high school and college, when the theater geeks were usually failing in math and science?! How is it that people are willing to accept as fact what an actor says about medicine, or climate control, or animal research or breastfeeding?

I can’t help but respect their talent (which I believe was given to them by God). But I won’t pay to see them.

That’s one reason I love my favorite actor, Robert Patrick. I’m not kidding–every interview that comes out, print or otherwise, every appearance, every charitable endeavor that he gets involved with–it’s always stellar and compatible with Christian worldview. If he has liberal viewpoints (which I’m sure he does–most actors do), he keeps them to himself.

In a recent interview, he even described his experiences in church at MASS (he’s Anglican)–he actually brought it up TWICE in the interview! And he is planning another USO trip back to Iraq to visit U.S. troops. He may not have the talent of Tom Hanks, but who cares? He’s a man (a married man with children) that I can admire. I only hope he continues to grow in faith and not end up in trash someday like so many good entertainers do (e.g., Brittany Spears). Entertainers have a lot of temptations.

You know there are a few good actors out there who also happen to be Catholic, and practicing at that. One has the initials of J. C. the other has the initials of J.M.

The only reason more good movies aren’t made is because more good people don’t go see them. If good Catholics would support good Catholic actors, what a different world Hollywood would be.

J.C did the Passion
J.M did Shadowlands

Both were great movies about life and death.

I’m new to this posting so I just thought I’d put up initials to see if anyone can guess.

God bless,
rom

Even Rocky Horror Picture Show? That’s not a movie that any good Christian should see no matter the personal character/views of the actors/actresses. It glorifies sexual deviancy (and I suppose other questionable behaviours) in so many ways it’s basically just pornography (with just enough clothing still on but NOTHING left to the imagination regardless)

I really like Robert Duvall. No matter what he is in, you can count on him for a great performance.

Also like Anthony Hopkins.
