Favorite Advent music

[mrsdizzyd]

…Other than “O Come O Come Emmanuel”? It can be secular or religious. It doesn’t have to be a perfect fit either.

I need a playlist that is appropriate for the season.

My favorite secular song is “White Christmas”. Favorite religious song is… does “Ave Maria” count?

[ZMystiCat]

A couple favorites of mine.

Carol of the Bells - Trans-Siberian Orchestra

Christmas Spirits - Sonata Arctica

I also like “White Christmas”, “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”, and “Away in a Manger”. I’d include “Joy to the World”, but technically that isn’t a seasonal song despite its constant use as one.

For a secular option I quite like the music from The Nutcracker

There’s lots of Olde English type songs, of which “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” is the best known, but I recall something about “Here we go a-wassailing” as well. And “Good King Wenceslaus”.

the holly and the ivy is quite nice.

People Look East.

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,
Their old familiar carols play…

And of course, the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah.

[DisorientingSneeze]

Secular…Advent…maybe this!?

[Tis_Bearself]

This is one of my favorite secular ones. I did notice there are 50 completely different songs all called “Christmas is Coming” but i like this one.

[DisorientingSneeze]

And so much Pentatonix should be in this playlist!

[Thrstypirate]

Hehehe, I have the perfect song.

A Voice Cries out in the Wilderness

I’d like to post more of my old faves like The Waitresses “Christmas Wrapping”, Root Boy Slim’s “Christmas at K-Mart”, and Cristina’s “Things Fall Apart”, but they’re probably a bit too edgy for this thread, so here’s the safe choice.

[Tis_Bearself]

And don’t forget “Little Drummer Boy” and “Do You Hear What I Hear”.

I guess Dolly Parton’s “Hard Candy Christmas” is right out though, almost as depressing as that Cristina song.

[Tis_Bearself]

One more, from Charlie Brown

“Little Drummer Boy”

Triggered!!!

…Other than “O Come O Come Emmanuel”?

Well, way to just exclude the best Christmas / Advent song ever… fine then…

I’m partial to Manneheim Steamroller, and George Winston’s December album.

K-Mart

I just learned “Soon and Very Soon” (by Andrae Crouch) and it’s one of my new favorites:
