What is your favorite Christmas CD/Album?

I am looking to buy a good one but don’t know what to buy. I just saw a special on the Andy Williams Christmas Special. It was on PBS. It was so good. It showed all the Williams boys singing along with the younger Osmond boys. It was great.

What’s your favorite Christmas CD’s?

My two favorites at the moment are:

Marina McBride’s Christmas CD - the only problem is “What Child Is This.” They changed some of the wording from “haste, haste to bring Him laud” to “haste, haste to bring Him grace” but other than that, I LOVE her voice and it’s a good CD

Bing Crosby’s White Christmas CD

I’m also planning to get Michael W. Smith and Jaci Velasquez since both have incredible voices and I went to a Christmas Michael W. Smith concert long ago and loved it!

I’d love to hear others’ recommendations for good religious traditional Christmas hymns as well since I have none in my collection :).

I really like all of Amy Grant’s Christmas albums – there are three of them, I think. All-time favorite song is “Welcome to Our World” on the third album.

I have an old album of carols from St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, a Christmas service where the narration of the nativity is punctuated by carols.
I also like the Chant CD of the Christmas offices, puer natus est.
I am collecting all the Trappist Christmas albums I can find.
I also have several Christmas CDs from the choir at Corpus Christi Cathedral

I love all Christmas music! The Time Life Christmas albums, Bing Crosby’s White Christmas, Nat King Cole, The Nutcracker Suite.

My all time favorite album is a corny one but it’s not Christmas without it. I have it on cassette, that took years to find after the record gave out, and haven’t yet seen it on cd, even on the oldies rack. I can’t recall the actual title just now, but it’s Mitch Miller and the Gang, Sing Along With Mitch. The one where he’s wearing a Santa Claus hat, lol!

It has all the fun songs on it, Jingle Bells, 12 days of Christmas, Sleigh Ride, White Christmas, Must Be Santa (that was my favorite as a kid).

Harry Connick Jr - When my heart finds Christmas. It’s loaded with absolute pearlers and we play it several times every Christmas. It’s about seven years old I think. Well worth buying.

Ditto. This is by far my favorite. Has a beautiful rendition of Ave Maria on it.

Anything by "“Mannheim Steamroller” (kinda jazzy-funk-electric… but cool)

Hard to find, but “A Winter’s Solstice” (piano solos on vintage keyboards, with perfect recordings… absolutely incredible)

VINYL: Merry Christmas, Andy Williams & Ray Conniff’s *Here We Come A-Caroling *&Mitch Miller Christmas Sing Along

CD: Mannheim Steamroller: A Fresh Aire Christmas (1988)

A toss-up between Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song” album, which is heavenly, and John Denver and the Muppets’ “A Christmas Together” which manages to be both hilarious and moving. I’ve had both since childhood (the vinyl LPs are still with my parents) and neither sounds dated.

More recent favorites are “Christmas with the Cambridge Singers” and the Cambridge Singers’ “Christmas Night:Carols from the Nativity”. Gorgeous mostly traditional hymns and carols in the great English choral tradition. The latter has my absolute favorite arrangement of “In Dulci Jubilo”.

I simply love James Taylor’s Christmas album. I don’t remember what it’s called, but I got it when I bought three Hallmark cards last year! 😃

There is a totally moving version of “Some Children See Him” and another song called “Who Comes This Night?” that moves me to tears. I love the line “the children come this starry night to lay their hearts before Him.”

There was a song WAY back in my teenage years by a contemporary (in the 80’s) Christian group called Petra. I think it was called “Mary’s Song” and it was about what was going on in Mary’s heart as they traveled to Bethlehem. Lovely.

I highly reccomend the Christmas CD “A Child Shall Lead”, by The Interior Castle.

Fantastic singing in latin and Italian accompanied by organ and symphony.

I heard it last year when a local radio DJ played it for his intro during the Christmas season and enjoyed it so much I had to buy it.

Here’s a link to their web site.

“A Charlie Brown Christmas”. Slam dunk answer for me.

Peace

MItch Miller!

My mom used to put Christmas music on the hi fi after we went to bed. We fell asleep listening it 🙂 --KCT

Sawyer Brown!
It is the best I have ever heard, it is very religious, I cry every year when I listen to it.

Hands down…“Merry Christmas” by Johnny Mathis, the one with him in a 60’s ski getup on the cover, not his newer Christmas alblums.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer soundtrack by Burl Ives. Got it at Target last weekend for $6.99. Classic 👍

Just bought it on e-bay. Can’t wait to hear it. —KCT
