Favorite (and not so favorite) TV Commercials?

I still find the State Farm “I Read It On the Internet” commercial hilarious.

However I’m not as much a fan of the “I’m Never Gonna…” one. I keep thinking, that since the guy ends the commercial on a couch with his wife and kids saying “I’m never letting go” that about 10 years later, he’ll be doing exactly that, ditching his wife and kids, minivan, and suburban house, buying a flashy sports car, and running off with a girl half his age, to repeat the cycle again. But maybe that’s just me being cynical. 😛

I also like the Campbell Soup commercial that features a snowman coming in from the cold, eating soup, then melting…to reveal a smiling little boy inside.

As well as the “M+M’s meet Santa” one, when the M+Ms and Santa both collapse in shock. “He’s…REAL!” “They’re…REAL!” thud (The quotes may not be quite accurate but the fainting part is.)
 
Favorites – oh, man, where to start?

Most of the Budweiser Clydesdale commercials.

“I didn’t give him cookies; I gave him chee-e-e-ese!”

And that just scratches the surface.
 
I like the old insurance commercial about the Patton style retired sergeant as a counselor. Tissue? Crybaby.
 
I like the Geico commercial about the free range chicken.

I hate commercials that push prescription drugs.

I’m with you on the Budweiser Clydesdale commercials. The best one was the 9/11 tribute one when the horses knelt.
 
I used to trade Japanese fansubs on VHS tape back in the 90’s. Sometimes, if you were lucky, the source material still had its original commercials intact. Those were some wacky commercials… sometimes you had no clue what they were trying to sell, but some were pretty awesome.

Youtube’ing “Japanese commercials” is a good way of wondering, “What did I just watch? And how much did someone get paid to come up with the idea?”

Yes, we still use his lines around our house! 😉

And that’s why I don’t like the color yellow.
 
Haven’t watched much tv for years, but one from decades ago has stayed with me. It was a PSA that showed a car blindly passing a truck. The voiceover said something like (can’t remember the names), “Guess who Bob and Carol met? Ted and Alice.” The video with the last line showed the 2 cars heading into each other.

That scared me so much I’m still afraid to pass!
 
I like the one where the dachshunds are dressed up like hot dogs and are running to a line of people dressed up like bottles catch-up and mustard.

“Maybe we should chug on over to namby-pamby land where maybe we can find some self confidence for you, you jack wagon!” 👍

That was R Lee Ermey. He actually **was **a marine drill instructor, and played the same in Full Metal Jacket.

A couple of my faves:

— This trippy psychedelic one for Lowney’s Cherry Blossom.

— This IKEA lamp.

— “Fifty watts per channel, baby-cakes!”
 
Geico’s ad agency has some pretty creative writers. I love the Geico Momversation Spy ad, (action hero in the middle of fighting off a bunch of bad guys gets a call on his cell phone from his mother) also Tarzan and Jane arguing over asking for directions.

There’s one commercial I absolutely hate, and that’s the one showing a middle-aged couple walking their pet pig and taking it into a bank.
 
I used to like watching old commercials from the 80s and 90s.

ring around the collar used to be a big deal, but I dont think Ive heard it mentioned in the last 10 yrs in any soap commercial? LOL I guess no one has this problem anymore?!

This reminds me of one of my non-fave commercials, an ad for Wisk a number of years back, it was a montage of historical pictures and clips, and used Jоsef Stаlin puffing on a pipe as one image. :eek:

The commercials on Japanese television are far more entertaining than most of the programming.
 
I like the Geico commercial which features Marco Polo puzzled by and then playing the game marco polo in the pool with some kids. “Ma io sono Marco Polo, sono aqui” he protests before he gets the gist of the game.

Previously I liked the Geico commercial that featured Pinnochio as a self-help lecturer, a bad one because whenever he utters platitudes about the ‘potential’ in the room his nose grows.

I guess commercials that hinge on Italian things are my bag.

Yeah, that actor’s Italian sounds extremely authentic. On the other hand, I wonder why there’s what seems to be a llama looking over the fence.

Another one that I liked was Vic Tayback arguing with a tub of margarine over whether it was butter or Parkay 😃

He sounds like a native speaker. The presence of the llama puzzled me too.
