My current favorites are:
Darker Than Black
Lovely Complex
History’s Strongest Disciple, Kenichi
Reideen
Kaibutsu Oujo
Initial D
Rurouni Kenshin

Former favorites:
Victorian Romance: Emma (season 1 & 2)
Ergo Proxy
Blood+
Inu Yasha
Hell Girl
Ghost Hunt

In case none of you ever heard of these titles, it’s because they’re either only in Japan (for now) or only on DVD.
Is Victorian Romance Emma out in America yet? I’ve been reading the manga and I love it, and when I finish the manga (on the fourth of seven, though only five are out in America) I want to watch the show.

It appears that they may have been licensed. Although I’m not sure of the release date. I can say however, that it’s just a matter of time.

YAY!!!
Seriously, that is second only to Azumanga Daioh in my heart. I think it’s because Kaoru Mori doesn’t rely on facial shorthand like so many authors do, and instead makes actual drama.

What’s your favorite anime series/movie/manga?

I’m currently on an “Inuyasha” kick and I have yet to find a better drawn/animated movie than “Ghost in the Shell”.

Inuyasha fan here as well. And I think I am in your “old” category.

Chronos Crusade. 🙂 Anime with a Catholic flare.

Anything Myazaki.

And last but not least, Mushishi.

I’ve been reading the “Fushigi Yugi” manga series as of late, and I adore them!!! I’ve only seen a handfull of the episodes of the anime, but I think it’s one I’m going to have to add to my collection.
Princess Monoke is probably my favorite anime. It’s just such an awesome story and so beautifully written and animated. I also like some of the silly anime like Sailor Moon and Tenchi Muyo. Washu from Tenchi is just such a hilarious character, watching her exploits always makes me smile.

Cool to see how many anime fans there are here! 😃

Ooo, I think I have a Tenchi Muyo spin-off, something like Magical Girl Pretty Sammy. It’s hilarious—I’ve been looking for more episodes.

Yes, I’ve already seen that. If there’s a Catholic or Orthodox edition of it, then I’ll buy it.
Yeah, that was my first reaction too. As soon as I saw it was based on the NLT I was kinda bummed. Still, curiosity will probably lead me to browse through one if it ever shows up
on the bookstore shelves around here. It’s an intriguing concept.

I’m 42 so my tastes may be a bit old fashioned 😃

Haibane Renmei
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Noir and Madlax (though both have pacing problems)
Bleach
Naruto (especially with my Niece! Yay! I have something to bond with my niece! That and pulping her in wii boxing! I’m so cruel.)
Claymore
Princess Mononoke
Lain
Elfen Lied (beware of ultraviolence)
Mai Hime and the Mai series (though it is at the racy edge)
Akira
…and on and on…😉

I was REALLY into Sailor Moon when it was out here, the English Dubbed version, of course I know characters were changed and what not to fit more of a child like audience. I am very much into Ranma 1/2 and have all the manga that I can find on that. I also like Tenchi! My favorite Tenchi character is Ryoga…she’s totally awesome.

InuYasha all the way, although there are no further anime epis.
Sigh…maybe someday…
I’d also like to see Her Majesty’s Dog and Night of the Beasts
animated…

So has no one else seen Hikaru no Go? I don’t think it was ever dubbed or even released over here, but you can get the manga.

For movies my favorite is “Spirited Away” and I also really enjoyed “Howl’s Moving Castle” and “The Cat Returns” is a nice simple and fun movie. I also really enjoyed “Whisper of the Heart” it has no villains and really no plot, it’s considered a ‘slice of life’ type of movie. But I think it’s just so sweet and it starts with the song “Country Roads” sung by Olivia Newton-John. These are all family friendly made by Ghibli.

I didn’t like “Princess Mononoke” which is strange, it’s beautiful, but I felt no connection with the movie.

I liked “Cowboy Bebop” which is not for little kids.
I like the first season of Sailor Moon, I think its better acted and dubbed in Japanese, but the censored English version is better for kids. The original Japanese version has two gay men as lovers in Sailor Moon. I didn’t know that when I watched the English version. Also, later on there are two lesbians and at one point Sailor Moon is called the “Messiah”, but these later seasons are basically the same story recycled.

Also I recently viewed “Interstella555”. They took one of the Daft Punk albums and made an anime movie to it. There’s no speaking and the story is kinda silly, but I liked it. It was not difficult to follow.

I liked “Ghost in the Shell” better than “Akira” and I thought they were well animated, but the stories left me a bit confused. Those two movies are for adults.

Anyone in here ever watched “The Fantastic Adventures of Unico?” I saw that as kid and recently it was posted on youtube. It’s really weird now that I looked at it.

I think there’s more anime I’ve watched but I’m drawing a blank

Neon Genesis Evangelion made no sense. Too bad it didn’t have a good story behind the art.

No Catholic should watch any anime that “is not for little kids.” There is no such thing as bad for kids but OK for adults.

God bless,
Ed

With all due respect, I think there is—when adult themes are treated in a serious manner and not just used as titillation. I think Rurouni Kenshin has too much violence for kids but the series makes some excellent points about 'live by the sword, die by the sword," without lying down and letting evil trample over innocent people.

I can only say that “Adult Entertainment” is the common euphemism for pornography. More often than not, what passes for “serious” entertainment is tittilating first and pays only scant attention to any serious or meritorious story telling. As a fiction writer, I’ve seen too many examples of “too intense or inappropriate for young viewers” being used as an excuse for gratuitous and sinful stories.

God bles,
Ed

Now that Darker than Black is finished, I’m looking for new favorites. Monster Princess was also good but it felt like there wasn’t an ending.

Anyways, I got my eye on Bamboo Blade right now. I see (or rather picturing) my daughter in one of the characters :D.
