Just wondering who your favorite apologist is or who you think is the most effective defender of the Catholic Faith.

My top 3 (Not necessarily in order)

  • Trent Horn
  • Scott Hahn
 
Dr. David Anders and his program “Called to Communion” almost single-handedly brought me back to the Church. He’s not for everyone, but the man is like a living, breathing encyclopedia.

I feel like Jimmy Akin is also like that. Walking encyclopedia.
 
Also, there may be a distinction between apologists and their areas of specialty. Patrick Madrid, for example, is a very good debater. While Dr. Hahn is probably a good debater, he tends not to engage in that forum. He is very gifted in explaining the faith in talks and such.
 
He really is. He’s probably my second favorite, and I have his book about the ECFs coming with quite a few others to do a personal study of the Early Church. He, like David Anders and many of the others listed, is cool under pressure and doesn’t give in to cheap shots and low blows, yet he doesn’t seem to let his personal conviction take precedence over the facts.
 
Steve Ray was the first apologist I encountered on my way back to the faith.

Scott Hahn, Jimmy Akin, Tim Staples, Trent Horn- anyone from Catholic Answers, really.
 
The Catholic apologists that I favor the most are Robert Sungenis, E Michael Jones, a historian, Michael Voris, Theodore Shoebat, a very zealous, militant Catholic who is committed to exposing all evils, and Hugh Owen, who is committed to promoting the traditional doctrine of creation. Of these, only Robert Sungenis and Michael Voris are professional apologists in the proper sense. They are all completely orthodox, and they also have an authentic, traditional Catholic world view. That is, they are in agreement with the Catholic views and paradigm of Christendom. They reject the concepts and paradigm of the so-called Enlightenment era and scientific thought and modernist errors, all of which modern civilization is constructed upon. They believe in the traditional Catholic understanding of creation and the natural world and have traditional Catholic views on government, heresy, sodomy, usury, economics.
