Favorite Biblical Figure besides Jesus

In the OT, hands down its Job. To suffer so much and still not turn his back on God. A lesson for us all.

In the NT, The Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph. Our Lady is easy to understand. St. Joseph though, seems that he is almost an “after thought”. But think of what he must have gone through.

Confusion over Mary’s pregnancy to the point of wanting to “put her away”

Charged with the care and protection of the Holy Family

The earthly father to Jesus (God the Son, imagine THAT pressure)

100% faithful in keeping the marriage with Mary Chaste and pure

Educating Jesus the ways of a carpenter, (Jesus being God, probably knew a better way, but submitted to Joseph in humble love–I meditate on this often)

St. Joseph was while on earth and is now as a Saint in heaven, the ultimate example of what a loving father(After God of course) and husband should be, in my humble opinion.

I could go on and on, but ya’ll kinda get the idea.

I agree with your points, sometimes I fell poor old St Joseph doesn’t get much recognition. I have a deep love for St Joseph, and I would pick him as a favourite.

Also, St Paul, is a favourite of mine.

In other words, the other apostles believed because they had seen Jesus’s wounds and Thomas wanted the same proof.

And let’s not forget:

Joh 11:16 Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples: Let us also go, that we may die with him.

I have always had this great admiration for Moses’ mother. I always felt she must have had great faith to cast her new born off into the water.

Jeremiah

He has a terribly difficult job and is faithful to God. The book of Jeremiah portrays him in such human terms that I can relate easily to him. He doesn’t want the job of prophet and protests. He is distressed that God calls him away from marriage to be a prophet. He gets depressed and decides he will no longer speak God’s message, but it is so powerful he can’t resisit.

Actually, she is not mentioned in the Bible. I checked the Douay-Rheims on e-Sword and got 0 matches for her name. Still, she’s a great Saint, just not one from the Bible.

A) People thought he was Zeus
B) His epistle almost made it into the Bible (bear with me)
C) He never messed up, and 1. Peter messed up several times, 2. Paul was a little too gung-ho, 3. James was a staunch conservative who wanted to keep Christianity Jewish. Barnabas was just right.
D) Well I think he did mess up one time, but hey, one time!
E) He gave all his money to the Church
F) He Showed Saint Paul the ropes
G) He was a big name in his day, but utterly forgotten by most modern christians.
H) His favorite donut is chocolate with sprinkles–just like mine!
I) Did I mention people thought he was Zeus?

I agree with Michael. Peter is my favorite, precisely because he goofs up so splendidly and in such human fashion. I love it when he wants to pitch three tents for Moses, Elijah, and Jesus at the Transfiguration. That just strikes me as something silly I would suggest after seeing a sight no other human could ever hope to see.

And yet Peter goes on to such greatness as only Jesus could have foreseen. There is hope for us all–even those of us who always seem to say the wrong thing.

One of our local Protestant churches is a St Barnabas, so I wouldn’t say that!

I have a sneaking fondness for Peter too - great in so many ways and yet extremely human as well.

From the Old Testament would probably be dear old Jonah. I can so relate to the having to be dragged kicking and screaming into doing God’s will … he REALLY didn’t want to preach to those poor Ninevites, did he!

Barnabas, Philip and Andrew are all neglected I think. They seem to have been facilitators. They got things done by getting the right people together, and let the credit go to others. We see Andrew introducing Peter to Jesus, Philip bringing the Greeks to Jesus [John 12], and Barnabas guiding Paul to his congregations.

How can you compare yourself to Peter??

Saint Peter was the greatest man to ever walk the earth besides Jesus himself.

When Peter walked by people his mere shadow would cure people and you compare yourself to this man ?

When People lied to Peter they dropped Dead on the Spot and you compare yourself to this man?

Peter Rose the dead to life ,healed the Sick , took care of the Poor, the First Pope.

Saint Peter is the Greastest Saint Ever dont compare yourself to him.
