I would have to say one of my favorite catholic movies of all time would have to be “the Mission” it portrayed the SJ in a good light and plus kept it true to what most likely happened in Central America. Any body else have a different favorite movie?

Scarlet in Black, only because it is interesting to watch Christopher Plummer play the Nazi heavy when in his most famous role in The Sound of Music, he was fighting them.

Also, this movie was made before the ridiculous charges that the Vatican conspired with the Nazis were in vogue.

One of my favorites is the original Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima movie from the fifties. It’s amazing that Lucia is still alive. She must be approaching 100.

God bless,
Deacon Tony

Bells of St. Mary’s has always been one of my favorites along with *Going My Way…*Guess I really like Bing Crosby? These movies are very nostalgic and tell of a kinder warmer time in the Church and the world…

Yes Bing Crosby has many great movies and he does have a excellent singing voice. Also remember that your favorite movie does not just have to be the ones on the poll it can be anything.

The Shoes of A Fisherman and Ben Hur are also some more of my favorites… Annunciata:)

Also love Song of Bernadette and Babette’s Feast. And let’s not forget The Passion of the Christ.

I believe the first movie should be The Scarlet and the Black (rather than Scarlet in Black). I highly recommend it.

As for The Mission - its would have been a great movie if they just chop off the second half. Basically everyone who takes a vow breaks it by the end of the movie. Then they close it with unneccessary child nudity.

The 2 Bing Crosby movies are ok - but have a definite progressive slant to them.

Another movie that I highly recommend is Hitchcock’s I Confess - which is finally available on dvd as of last week.

Dearest All

Mine is ‘Jesus of Nazareth’ which was a sequel shown on TV years ago, I must have been 12 years old at the time. But I have never been able to find this on video or dvd, but I know it has been released as a movie.

God Bless you and much love and peace to you

Teresa xx

Passion of the Christ
Bells of St Marys
Going My Way
Boys Town
Men of Boys Town
Song of Bernadette
Wide Awake
Miracle of Marcelino
Sound of Music

Has anybody seen the movie about our current Pope? Albert Finney played him and it was made in the 80s

No one has yet mentioned one of my favorites Come to the Stable. 👍 :yup:

I still haven’t seen the Passion yet. I had a baby just before it came out so I never got around to it. I’ll have to rent it sometime.

I liked “Brother Sun, Sister Moon” and “Molokai: The Story of Father Damien” and also “Bernadette”

I didn’t know there was a such thing as a Catholic movie. I have seen The Bells of St. Mary’s. I remember not hating it. But that’s about all. hahaha Then someone mentioned Sound of Music. Now, there’s a movie!!! A poor young nun-in-training struggling with her committments to God and her inability to fit in as a nun. Then realizing that God sent her right where she was needed most and she fell in love too!!! God is such a romantic. 🙂

Of course, I loved The Passion!! If you haven’t seen it…see it! I fell in love with the Lord when I saw that movie. Then I fell in love with a wonderful man here on earth, so I can feel the love of Christ in many different areas in my life. Yay!!!

I vote for “The Blues Brothers” - now there was a nun that matches my memories and a clear mission from God! (now I’m ducking and running for cover…)

Wasn’t that great and then he plays in both the old and new Nuremburg trials one as a prisoner one as a lawyer. But I love Christopher Plummer he is a good actor. The Scarlet and the Black is great. The Fourth Wisemen, Our Lady of Fatima, The song of Bernadette, The Robe, The Agony and the Ecstasy, oh and the best with those old nuns and Sidney Poitier Lillies of the field, Ben Hur, Demitrius, Quo Vadis there are so many I can’t vote.

Quo Vadis such a great movie I just love the part where Paul comes into the house of the “old General” and starts talking to them about Peter! Just a great movie

The book is more awesome than the movie. Sooo Catholic and much different than the movie. But awesome I think it is worth finding to read.

Oh, yeah! I forgot about that one. Great movie! I love when he teaches those old German nuns to sing Gospel, “Amen, Amen!”
