I also like “Amen” by Fr. John Schiavone.
Yes, these are older songs but I don’t know many contemporary Catholic songs. I do know of many protestant contemporary songs. Matt Mahher, who is Catholic has some awesome contemporary songs.I like the Dan Schutte arrangement of Here I Am, Lord. Haven’t heard the other piece.
I’m just so glad to see a POSITIVE thread about contemporary Catholic songs! There are really some very nice ones.
I also want to mention that I still think it’s funny that 40-year-old songs are considered "contemporary!To me, these are oldies or “boomer music.”
Matt Maher is awesome. He has blessed my life tremendously. I love his song, You were on the Cross. I cry every time I hear it, becuase I heard it when I was going through a difficult time in my life. I often wondered where Jesus was, and now I know.Yes, these are older songs but I don’t know many contemporary Catholic songs. I do know of many protestant contemporary songs. Have you heard the fairly new song by Sean McDonald? It is so beautiful! It gives me hope like so many of the others on Spirit. The lyrics say out of the ashes I will rise and there is trouble on the ground or something like that.Matt Maher is awesome. He has blessed my life tremendously. Hmm what’s the title? I dont recognize song titles or artist, but I am sure I have heard the music. You Tube does not work on my computer sadly.Have you heard the fairly new song by Sean McDonald? - Do not let your hearts be troubled.
Children, do not fear.
Though you suffer as I suffered,
I am always near.
Refrain
Come to the Lord;
come to the table of lasting life.
Bring your burdens;
there’s no price,
just come to the Lord.
- I will never leave you orphans;
you are not alone.
I have made your place in heaven,
in my father’s home.
- Eat this bread and never hunger;
I will give you life.
Drink the cup I place before you;
you will never die.
Final Refrain
Come to the Lord;
come to the table of lasting life.
Bring your burdens;
there’s no price,
just come to the Lord.
Come to the Lord.

Why did you even open this thread?i hope none of these songs get sung in mass
Good call on the Mullins song. I remember that one well from the late 1900s.My second favorite song is by Rich Mullins called, “Hold Me Jesus” He gave up his very successful Christian music career and all his possessions and went to teach his songs and music to children on an Indian reservation. He even had to visit the monastery to get food. Sadly he died in a car accident at 38 yrs. old. I think God took him because he was a saint.
Google you tube “Hold Me Jesus” by Rich Mullins
My very favorite song is called, “When I’m on My Knees” by Jacki Valesquez. So beautiful and Catholic. Again you can google you tube “When I’m on My Knees” by Jacui Valasquez I like the 4th one down where she is performing at a concert. The first one is a raw video when she is older.
Sorry the links are not working for me.
Yes, I love all his songs. There was a you tube video of him on the reservation with children in Catholic uniforms and one with him singing/playing the creed, called “Credo”. He was about to become Catholic when he died.Good call on the Mullins song. I remember that one well from the late 1900s.
