A number of posters said they liked Dirty Dancing.

I actually didn’t like it.

Patrick Swayze was a great dancer, but the plot was a bit disjointed. It was supposed to be a light fun movie about first love and dancing, and boy on the wrong side of the tracks. The subplot about the clandestine abortion though, was too serious a theme in this type of movie.

I read the other day that the chemistry between Pattick Swayze and Jennifer Grey was not there. They didn’t like each other.
I don’t even remember a subplot. I haven’t watched that movie in many years. Sadly, Jennifer doesn’t even look like Jennifer from Dirty Dancing anymore.

Also My Sister Eileen, Kiss Me Kate both have Bob Fosse and Tommy Rall dance numbers. West Point Story (with the wonderful Gene Nelson) and Yankee Doodle Dandy with James Cagney and of course South Pacific and Oklahoma.

Chicago, especially “He Had It Coming”, “When You’re Good to Mama” (a fan dance by Queen Latifah) and “They Both Reached for the Gun” where Richard Gere playing a lawyer works his client like a ventriloquist’s dummy and works reporters like marionettes.

I will say “Jailhouse Rock” along with some of the other early rock and roll movies of the 1950s, that was talented dancing.

“Swing Time” was on TCM last night, with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. So I got to thinking about movies in which dancing is the main attraction. Do you have any particular favorites? “Swing Time” and “Top Hat” are two of mine.

TCM has a schedule full of Fred Astaire again today, 5-Aug-2015.
