Is the line because the falafel is good or because there’s no other falafel to be found? 😛 Seriously, though, the best falafel I’ve had in the US was done by Syrian Jews from a cart in midtown Manhattan. Just incredible! The real thing, and they even offered Aleppo pepper!
Both. It’s incredible, but I’ve no comparison to make because it’s the only falafel I’ve had!

I prefer the shawarma, tho’… except in Lent!

They do have aleppo pepper. And other peppers. And a dozen different things they’ll stuff in for you as you wish.

And make a tasty baklava.

I don’t know of any Eastern Catholic restauranteurs, but then I usually don’t know what the religious preferences of the local businesspeople.

But there are plenty of decent mediterranean food available in Pittsburgh- not so much in the way of eastern European cuisine however which is unusual.

BTW, a restaurant’s cuisine isn’t a foolproof indication of the owner’s religion or ethnicity.

Try Sara’s Ethnic or Gypsy Cafe in Southside. Both have EXCELLENT Eastern European food…

Hands down, “Stariy L’viv” (also known as “Old Lviv”) in Ukrainian Village, Chicago.

Saks Ukrainian Village (where Mike Ditka would occasionally hang out amongst other Ukie notaries in Chicago) is good as well, but I think the owners might be Ukrainian Orthodox.

sorry we in new york never heard of eastern catholic restataurant its not in usa ?
The two I mentioned in St. Louis are actually part of the parishes. I don’t remember every seeing or hearing of one when I lived in NYC.

There are two churches here that serve lunch. St Raymond’s is Maronite and if anyone ever invites you to a wedding reception or funeral luncheon, don’t miss it. They used to be open to the public, but I haven’t worked downtown in a long time and don’t know if they still do that. Then the Greek Orthodox Church, Assumption serves a Friday lunch that can’t be beat. It’s like lunch in a Greek grandma’s kitchen, and not expensive either. They have a huge festival every year and although there are other things to do than eat, I can’t imagine why you’d want to do them.
Don’t miss the Church Tour at Assumption!!! Sit in for Vespers too!

I don’t know if this counts, but this is where Fr. Sid always went when I lived in Indy:

Bishop John remarked that every other Church has a calendar sponsored by a Funeral Home, except St. Athanasius which is sponsored by a restaurant. 😉

Well, this is funny. When I tried to access that link it was blocked as pornography or erotica. Hmmm…what was Father Sid up to in Indy?

I guess the “parental controls” in your browser are set way too tight. 😛 The page at that link is absolutely “G” rated. 🙂

Father Sid mentioned at least once per Sermon that he councils kids who are addicted to porn on their parents’ computers! I seriously doubt he would frequent a house of porn. Also, I went to the site before I posted it to make sure it was the right place. 😛

I also used to visit Khoury’s in Peoria, IL. It is run by parishioners of St. Sharbel’s in Peoria, a Maronite parish. The ladies of the choir tried to get me to join the parish one day! 😃

I’m at work. Some of the stuff that gets through is just amazingly gross and nasty (I’m seldom offended; I have the sense of humor of a 12 year old boy), and other stuff that is totally non-offensive gets bonked. I’ll try it at home.

For goodness sakes, it’s just a restaurant website. I can’t imagine what my system thought was naughty there. The menu looks great. I’ll try to remember it if I hit town.

I hear the stew is pretty sinful. 😉 😛
