What are some of y’all favorite foods that aren’t traditionally American? I want to broaden my horizons! (I will refuse to eat scorpions in lollipops though. Apparently that’s a thing somewhere)

Mexican food made at a FMBM (For Mexicans, By Mexicans) restaurant is usually fantastic.

Indian food made at a good, authentic Indian restaurant is also great.

I like Greek cuisine a lot. Dishes like gyros, souflake, moussaka, grilled octopus, stuffed grape leaves are all good meals. Feta cheese is a great addition to salads and their cucumber sauce is great too.

I’m with both of you!

I love the Oregano used in Greek cooking.

I love Greek leg of lamb, and roasted chicken.

My favorite way of preparing leg of lamb is Greek-style.

I also like Asian cuisine, and Italian as well.

Don’t know where to begin on this.

Just find a good ethnic restaurant. My favorites are:
  • Korean
  • Thai
  • Szechuan Chinese
  • Mexican (by Mexicans for Mexicans, as already stated)
  • Indian
  • Greek
  • Japanese

Some of those are hard to find in rural oklahoma though

Check your Yelp, you might be surprised. If you have any sort of Mexican migrant worker population there, then there will be a good place to eat. There are great Mexican restaurants in all kinds of weird rural areas of Pennsylvania because of that.

Also, if you have any sort of middle Eastern migrant population, you might have a good restaurant serving them too. I love Middle Eastern food.

Mexican restaurants are literally on every corner here in OK. There’s at least two in my town and for a little town of 10 square miles, (a 1/5 of that is the local lake), that’s a lot 😂

Yes. Bravo’s is owned by my friend’s family and it’s really really good.

If you get a chance try dining at a Vietnamese restaurant sometime. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the tasty dishes that culture has to offer.

Greek is one of my favorite cuisines and my top choice in European gastronomy. The highest consumers of vegetables in Europe, the Greeks have such a way with produce that even The carnivorous Husband can be persuaded to eat their dishes…

Japanese is probably my all-time favorite worldwide. 🍱🍘🍙🍛🍜🍢🍣🍤🍥🍡🥟 No one can elicit such complexity of flavor with just a few ingredients like the Japanese can. I especially enjoy their hot pot stews (nabemono) in winter. So comforting 🍲

I agree.

You know what? I like food and it would be easier for me to type the foods I do not like.

All of them? I love food.

I, too, love Greek, and similar Eastern Mediterranean cuisine: Turkish, Lebanese, Egyptian. If I was forced to choose any food in the world (which isn’t easy) I think I would choose Eastern Mediterranean.

Other notables are Korean/Japanese. The Japanese are very big on their savory meats and defined another taste of the tongue, “umami”, that is distinct from salt, sour, bitter, or sweet. Although it is technically right here in the US, Cajun is one of the, or even the most adventurous of cuisines in the world, being a mixing of French, Native American, and Black American, using some of the local wetlands wildlife:

Also a big fan of Vietnamese.

And Russian. Fish chowder & black bread. Mmm.

And Italian.

And Spanish.

And also Latin.

Oooo, Nigerian has some good dishes. Peanut & tahini chicken. Yum.

Indian too.

I ate at a Himalayan restaurant once when I was in Durango. They served me yak meat with hot spiced wine. Yum.

Scandinavia has some good pickled/fermented food; not for the feint of heart. It will cause children to run away in fear.

And Slavic.

Also Caribbean.

Do not forget Thai.

I agree with you here, Milt.

I’m the exact same way, too.

I also enjoy food.

It doesn’t have to be a gourmet meal, either. I also love good home-cooked comfort food, like meatloaf or a nice pot roast with potatoes.😁 😋

Thai food like curry dishes, pad thai and other dishes with rice. Polish food like pierogi, cabbage rolls and potato pancakes.

I love potato pancakes!

I like to make them, and potato latkes, too, and then eat them served with apple sauce. Yummy! 😋

I enjoy eating Ethiopan food, injera and doro watt
a sour dough risen flat bread that’s kind of spongy
with a type of chicken stew that can be quite hot.
My favorite with injera is the gomen though 🙂 A green vegetable like Kale cooked with some onion and oil.
