Gone with the Wind. Brilliant novel and unsurpassed storytelling.

Also The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

My favorite historical writers are Dostoyevsky and Alexander Solzhenitsyn. I’ve read their works many times. Never tire of them.
I don’t know that their works would be considered historical novels, but I love Dostoevsky, too.
 
Leo Tolstoy actually the greatest genius, but the philosophy of Leo Tolstoy in some issues moving away from Christianity, but there are writers who are not Christians at all, but they are very inspiring. I like very much Theodore Dreiser, but my favorite writers are Cervantes, Shakespeare, Victor Hugo.
