At our parish we are using the Heritage Mass setting until this weekend when we are switching over to Mass of God’s Promise. I have experienced Mass of Creation, Heritage Mass setting and now Mass of God’s Promise and so far my favorite one is this new one we are switching to.

Regarding each parish using the same mass setting the answer is No. Each parish chooses what mass setting they wish to use.

Inasmuch as this is an old thread, there are some important things that we need to factor in when discussing Mass settings.
  1. The settings need to match the text of the Roman Missal word-for-word. It is ilicit for composers to add to or delete from the official texts of the prayers of the Church. That is why I find Mass of Creation, the SLJ Mass and some of the settings by Bob Hurd problematic.
  2. The Roman Missal has been revised. Thus, all of the settings will have to change to conform to the revised text. The CDWDS reiterated that the music must fit the text, not the other way around.
Having said that, one of the best English-language settings that I have heard and used is the late Richard Proulx’s A Community Mass. As far as the revised settings go, you really can’t go wrong using what ICEL has set to music because it will be placed directly into the Roman Missal. You can find it here:

Also, a setting featuring the revised Gloria, Sanctus and Memorial Acclamation was rolled out during the Papal UK visit. It is called the Mass of Blessed John Henry Newman. What is great about the Gloria from ICEL and the Mass of Blessed John Henry Newman is the fact that the settings are not responsorial and are sung straight-through. 👍

Lots of scary answers in this thread… way to keep it creepy, guys.

Messe de Minuit pour Noel - Charpentier.

Which mass parts settings are played in your church?
Do you have a favorite set of mass parts, if so, what is it.
Is one setting used for every mass in the parish?
Is it changed for the different seasons… Lent, Advent, Easter, etc.

But all this has made me curious about what other options are out there???
The Mass settings usually played at my parish are Mass of Creation, St. Louis Jesuits, and Mass of God’s Promise. Very rarely do we get Heritage Mass (my favorite).

The Mass settings are usually changed each liturgical season and major feast day, and usually a hodge-podge is done during Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter.

I’m still partial to Somerville’s (New) Good Shepherd Mass.

It’s probably the very first English setting I learned back in the early 70s, and for a few decades its Gloria would have been the best known one across Canada. It’s the Gloria we’d been singing for the first 11 years I’d been in this parish, until the teachers who form the choir decided to resurrect Carey Landry’s Gloria from the Young People’s Mass (which is much, much worse than the Gloria from the MOC). Not cool at a Mass where the average age is 65.

The Cathedral just hauled out the Proulx “Mass for the City,” which they tried out last year and quietly put away after a month or so. It has a beautiful through-composed Gloria, but, as far as I’m concerned, the rest of it can hit the ash can. Just not attractive. I haven’t been to my home parish for a few weeks, but I’m due to cantor the Saturday evening Mass during October, so I guess I’ll find out what we’re doing soon enough.
