I am guessing that people on this forum have a certain fondness for St. Thomas Aquinas which is why voting is favouring the Dominicans so far.
I chose the Dominicans because of their combination of prayer, study, and sharing the faith. It appeals to a love for contemplation, a desire to always be growing in my faith, and the joy of sharing this with others.

About 12 percent of the population follows this path, using the syllogistic method of Saint Thomas Aquinas known as Scholastic prayer.
The main emphasis is on the orderly progression of thought from cause to effect. People of this prayer type prefer neat, orderly forms of the spiritual life, as opposed to the free-spirit, impulsive attitude of the Franciscan approach. Their spirituality is centered on the earnest pursuit of all the transcendental values: truth, goodness, beauty, unity, love, life, and spirit. Like Saint Teresa of Avila, they are willing to exert superhuman effort to achieve their goal.
Because of their disdain for second best, they seek total truth and authenticity in their lives and work hard to reach the whole truth about themselves, about God, and about sanctity. This intense pursuit of truth colors their whole spiritual life.

It says I should be an Augustinian… pray I dont go down the same path as a certain German Augustinian from the Rennaissance

Jesuits! 🙂 Ignatian spirituality is very practical and has been a tremendous help to me. I was going to go on about liking how Christocentric it is, but that applies to all Catholic spiritualities. 🙂

In what way are they stricter?

🙂
I think they are more astetical. big sp. I had one show up where I was living at one time. They are a reform of OFM, and reforms always seem to me to be stricter.

I finally ended up in a third order regular.

Benedictines for me.

When I returned to the church, I was first drawn to the carmelites, but after receiving spiritual direction from a Jesuit priest over a year ago, I read the rule of St.Benedict, and the contents of his rule has inspired me in such a way that I’m on the way to becoming a more spiritual, simplified and stable person.

Orthodox Church has only two orders of monks. Regular monks and shema monks. Regular monks live in monasteries. Shema monks live in complete isolation, they often wonder forests and deserts, they only come down to the monastery once in 7 days to confess and receive Holy Communion, then they go back to their isolation.

You can recognize them, they have pointy hats, and wear armors, made of writings and symbols, that drive away demons from them, so they could focus on prayer. They must completely resemble angels and must be completely spiritual.

These monks are very rare, most of them can be found in Russian Church today.

sounds incredible

Toss up for me between the Jesuits who schooled and the Franciscans who I’ve always had an admiration for.

The Servite fathers. The Redemptorists would come in a close second.

Carmel is where my heart is! Saint Therese has had her holy hooks in me for a few years now and I don’t think she will let me go. I even had a sort of dream yesterday that I was giving Saint Therese a piggy back ride! 😃

I recently moved near the Carmelite Monastery in Terre Haute, Indiana. I love this place and the sisters in the community, I just have a profound sense of something there that I have never felt anywhere else.

No Benedictines on the list???:eek::eek:

All of the orders and founders owe their beginning ultimately to God, but many of the orders you listed were influenced greatly by the Benedictines!!! 👍😛
