I was just wondering what everyones favorite sacramentals are, and why… I want to be more open to more prayers, and more ways in which to adore the Lord, Mary, and saints!
Thanks!

I’m not sure what that is either, but I have a feeling Fr. David meant:What does this mean? Sorry, I am new on here!

You win the kewpie doll!“20 + C + M + B + 09”
This is the year 2009 with the initials C, M, and B inserted in the middle.
The initials C, M, and B stand for “Caspar, Melchior, Balthasar” and refer to the three Magi or Wise Men.
This tradition of blessing the doorways (with blessed chalk) symbolizes the family’s commitment to welcome Christ into their homes on a daily basis throughout the year.
I know Catholics do not adore Mary or any Saints. Adoration is reserved for God alone.I was just wondering what everyones favorite sacramentals are, and why… I want to be more open to more prayers, and more ways in which to adore the Lord, Mary, and saints!

I’ve never heard of this before. I was born in Canada, and moved to Georgia when I was seven. Even where my mom grew up is a little Catholic town and I never heard of it. Where is this mostly done, and why is it not done throughout the world? You win the kewpie doll!
I wanted to post that all by itself and see what the result would be.
That’s my “favorite sacramental” (as far as such a concept can exist). During the Epiphany season, the priest goes around to all the houses and blesses them for the year.
I remember as a youngster, how important that house blessing was to everyone. Every house I visited had that inscription above the main door. I saw it every time I left the house, and every time I left the home of someone I visited (local custom was to do it on the inside, but I’ve also seen it on the outside, visible when one enters; same meaning either way). It was a constant reminder for us to keep God in our hearts as we went out into the world.
And just an aside, the first name might be Gaspar, Casper or Kasper; spellings vary.
Here in the US, I see it mostly among people of Eastern European, Russian and Germanic descent. When I was in Bavaria, I noticed that nearly all the homes had it written on the outside.I’ve never heard of this before. I was born in Canada, and moved to Georgia when I was seven. WOW! I wish I had experienced this before. Seems like it is a great traditition to pass on!!Here in the US, I see it mostly among people of Eastern European, Russian and Germanic descent. When I was in Bavaria, I noticed that nearly all the homes had it written on the outside.
Because of the priest-shortage, and our change in lifestyle, it’s not as common in the US as it used to be. When I was growing up, the priest would set aside a certain time (I don’t know, maybe a week or 2) and simply walk around the parish blessing each home–someone was always home during the day, and if not (very rare), the doors were open. People knew when the priest would be doing their street, and wouldn’t dare leave until he blessed the home. He wore a cassock and surplice and biretta, and had 2 altar boys with him to assist–a big deal because they thereby had the day off from school.
