That was taking by the local police just before he was shot to death by fring squad. The police thought he would cower and break down so they wanted to get a picture of it. Instead he put out his arms and said “Viva Cristo Rey!” ( long live Christ the King).

Miguel Pro was a Jesuit who went undercover to be able to minister to the Mexican faithful when Catholicism was under persecution in Mexico. Eventually he was caught and shot. He even blessed the men in the firing squad before they shot him. It’s hard to see but he has a rosary in one hand and a crucifix in the other. It’s such sad picture but such an inspiration at the same time.
This website has letters he wrote to a friend and some of his drawings. He seems like such an ordinary man who really deeply loved Christ and the Church.

I had never heard of Blessed Miguel Pro… until he was featured in an issue of “This Rock” magazine. He is also the subject of a Bob and Penny Lord “mini-doc” on Martyrs for the Church.

To have that kind of faith and courage. Just like the early Christians. Oh my. Blessed Miguel Pro… pray for us.:gopray:
 
As you know, I love this thread. I could not reduce the size of some pictures without losing their quality.

II learned about St. Winefred through the fictional Cadfael novels by Ellis Peters. There’s a line in the screenplay of A Morbid Taste for Bones where Brother Cadfael remarks [and I’m poorly paraphrasing here], “I feel closer to her here at the abbey, than I did when I was near her grave.” St. Winefred of Wales

Me, too. Can’t help it. I look at it and I know he’s not a saint but I can’t help but being moved by – as others on this board would say – the sentimentality of it. There’s no douut to his holiness and sincerity.

I wish I could find a bigger pic to print out and frame.
 
Yes, St. Scholastica was St. Benedict’s twin sister. When she died, he had a vision of her soul ascending to Heaven… and that is how he knew she had died. He sent word to her convent (which was about 5 miles from his monastery) and had her body brought to his own crypt. I believe they are now buried together.

Does anyone know, if there are any other twin saints? Did St. Thomas have a twin? Since his name means “twin”? Just curious.🤷

“Twin” as far as Thomas goes has been under debate for a loooooooong time. Some scholars say this, archaeologists say that…I can’t answer that for you.

However, other twin saints are Cosmas and Damian. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sts._Cosmas_and_Damian

There are 3 sets of brothers named Cosmas and Damian, be sure to note the right "set’:
Saints Cosmas and Damian of Asia Minor—alternately, of Mesopotamia (November 1) Twin sons of Saint Theodota. Died peacefully and were buried together at Thereman in Mesopotamia.

So here we go again, including folks from the OT and NT, who are “truest Saints” to me, especially those who have led righteous lives, and are mentioned in the Bible (those who have followed God’s law, I mean:

Since I’ve already mentioned Tobit and Sarah, I would like to take a moment to bring Tamar’s story to light. She was raped by her half brother, and (it is assumed?) that she lived in seclusion for the rest of her life (cultural norm since she had lost her “value,” even as a princess).

Her “justice” was served in a violent way (by Absalom?), although we never hear about her again. Her advocatation of rape/abuse victims is as strong as St. Rita’s. Look at her trust, her hurt, her betrayal, and she still remained a woman of God.

Meeting Anna in the temple (Luke 2:21-38) is another one of my favorite events from the Bible. A woman who lost her husband after seven year became very pious and NEVER lost her faith in God or the faith in the coming of the Messiah.

And this picture was taken in a non-Catholic chapel in Woods Hole/Falmouth, MA (church unnamed per forum rules, PM me if interested).

It’s a poor picture to describe what I saw. The light was streaming through it like a halo and I was able to see Christ’s love for the unnamed [ womanSamaritan](http://forums.catholic-questions.org/John 4:1-42) at the well. He wasn’t very gentle with her, and neither was he very harsh.

It was, ironically, this particular wndow which brought me back to the Catholic faith. I thought, “What an unusual a theme for a window, but we see that Christ can forgive anyone their sins.”

When I have trouble going to Confession, I think of this and get up and just GO! (This pic does it no justice, the light was streaming through almost AT me.)
