I like ayn rand, she falls into philosphy but I like her fiction. I know she was an athiest, but she didn’t have anything against religion. She thought religious people were capatable with her beliefs.

Need a choice between plain ol’ Niven and the Niven with Pournel (however you spell that) combo. I like the combo.

My husband is fond of Issac Asimov and David Weber and I haven’t got a clue about either of them…🙂

does your name “Pug” come from the Ray Feist character?

I read the Riftwar series years ago and remember liking it even though it was not s.f.

peace

Your question is toughter than it appears! Originally, when I was Pug on Beliefnet, it was because, sadly, I named myself after a dog. But, someone there asked your same question, and I had to concede that I had liked Pug and those books and thought that was a cool idea. So, I chose the same handle here as I had there, but you’ll have to figure out if it is still after the dog, or if I have stepped up in class a bit to the character, or if I am merely lazy and named myself after myself. 😃

I was just about to ask the same question! 🙂 👍

Who is your favorite science fiction author?
I can’t believe you didn’t put Arthur C. Clarke down as a choice. But for me, it would have been a tossup between him and Asimov. For recent stuff, Niven and Pournelle are pretty darned good.

Trying to pick one from that list is like trying to pick the most chaste virgin. In order of preference.
  1. Ray Bradbury
  2. Issac Assimov
  3. Harlan Ellison Tick Tock, Tick Tock.

Ray Marshall:

didn’t put clark because I thought he was too similar to asimov.

David Brin ranks up there as one of my favourites as well. However, of the original list, I had to vote for Heinlein. 🙂

Too many good choices here.

I leave SF for a while and then “rediscover” it all over again. Great genre.

Same here. I voted for Asimov, though, but it’d be hard to choose between them, even though I haven’t read that many of each of their books. I really liked 2001: A Space Odyssey, Childhood’s End, and Rendevous with Rama.

I also liked a lot The Gods Themselves.

I also like Alfred Bester, some Clifford Simak, C.S. Lewis.

I haven’t read the newer authors you guys have mentioned (like Bear, Wolf).

Sci-fi is probably my fave genre, if I just had to pick one.

You left out L. Ron Hubbard , who turned science fiction into a relegion—Scientology 😦

this thread is not ready to die yet…come on people…post…post…let’s hear it for science fiction!!!

fine…this thread is truly dead…I accept that now…it just seems so unfair…first the reputation system…and now this, but whatever.

btw: my tagline: (the one about the liberals) it appears in book IV of Frank Herbet’s Dune series. Who are the other three who liked Herbert? oh well…peace to all and God bless…I’m never going to check this thread again…untill tomorrow.

Ray Bradbury-has he put out anything new lately? I have to admit that I haven’t read sci fi in quite a while.
