Favorite Star Wars Movie

Empire:

Best direction (because it wasn’t George Lucas), most character development, best use of real drama and storytelling. You could tell that Empire had the least involvement from Lucas, because it is the movie most capable of standing on it’s own merits. It was well written, well staged and had the most story of the first three movies (which means it had the most story of any of them since the prequels are about as deep as a puddle in my shower). Die hard fans always point to Empire as the pinnacle of the series.

I’m kind of bummed that someone mentioned the holiday special before I could. Now that was a prelude of things to come from the mind of George Lucas. shudder

I liked episode III because it really explained everything with the whole Anakin-Vader thing. It also had some pretty awsome lightsaber fights. I’d say Return of the Jedi was my second favorite though.

Okay, I apologize because I’ve only read about 1/2 of the previous posts… sorry, there are three whole pages!!
My comments…
-I picked Empire Strikes Back as my favorite. It has just always seemed the coolest to me, and possibly the “least cheesy”.
-I loved the action scenes in all the new movies. Obviously the special effects were a lot better when they were made, but still- I think the Obi-Wan/Anakin fight in Ep. III rocked!!!

Then when you get to what happens to Padmé in Ep. III … take a good female character and reduce her to a hand-wringing, weepy shadow of herself … bleah.

Good point! I liked Padme in Ep. I and (partly) in Ep. II, because she wasn’t as wimpy… That’s also why I like Princess Leia- she actually did things! She wasn’t just a sideline character who needed everyone to save her…

RETURN OF THE JEDI is by far my favorite.
Darth Vader’s repentance and restoration make the
whole series come to a beautiful and touching end.
